Time to Pick a Leader & Civ

Skirmishes are definitely solid for likely early game issues (barbs and rushes). How quickly are we going to get forges, though? I don't usually prioritize MC on non-Colossus/pangaea games, and I figure being the builders we are that Education is going to be heavily prioritized if possible. How much sooner are we picking up MC here, and how much sooner for us to mass build forges in all our commerce cities? This is really asking you to consider your playstyles - I know my answer is that forges aren't as important as unis, and don't always get built that much sooner for me, but I think you tend to build infrastructure a lot sooner than me in general.

See, this is why I tried to start discussion about our tech path... though someone said it was too early...

Heh, I guess we're short on Americans on this team, most discussion in this forum happens while I'm asleep, hah. Anyhow, I adjusted Cal's chart and added Mali & Carthage:

I think Agriculture, since it is more expensive then mining should be worth more. I made mining and agriculture valued the same, though an argument could be made that agriculture is better. It should be no surprise that everyone values units and buildings differently. I adjusted all the point values on UU and UBs based on how I see their worth. I added notes.

I also upped the total point values for UBs, I think they are more important then units or starting techs. I was considering lowering the max points for starting techs too since I consider them less important, but whatever.

In any event, based on the chart, my votes are as follows:

Sumeria - 3
Mali - 2
Ottomans - 1




Edit: I notice that in the screen shot Cal posted he changed the overall values for each category too. I tried his 15-20-25 system and I got the same rankings as before.

Ok, so with votes in from Ben, DNK, mz, Cal, Herc, RP, and I, the totals are:

Ottomans - 13 points (listed by 6 out of 7 voters)
Sumeria - 9 points (listed by 5 out of 7 voters)
Rome - 7 points (listed by 4 out of 7 voters)
Korea - 6 points (listed by 3 out of 7 voters)
Carthage - 5 points (listed by 2 out of 7 voters)
Mali - 2 points (listed by 1 out of 7 voters)

I thought it would be interesting also to see whether certain picks are favored strongly by a small number of voters or whether they have broad support. Amazingly the broadness of support for each civ matches up exactly with the deepness of support.

So.... giving my vote to mzprox more or less placed the Romans 6 points behind of what they could be if I wouldn't have done it
I think that I'm just doing a good thing though. I'm right now playing Rome in SP for a couple of weeks so that's poluting my mind. I'm just so amazed on how strong these preatorians are.
