    Highly suggest no random events.
I left events on. I like events. All victory conditions. Epic speed, no tech trading. All other options are default.

As for taking cities in Europe.. I think it should be allowed, but frowned upon. Perhaps not allowed initially, first X turns or so, but then somewhat allowed after that. With everyone being in such close quarters and culture being such an issue it is likely some cities will flip from culture anyhow. But I don't really have strong feelings either way.

      1. OzzyKP
      2. Kenshin2
      3. 1889
      4. Dick76
      5. LzPrst
      6. MNGoldenEagle
      7. Jehoshua

It is possible that others expressed an interest, but did so with an anonymous game account. If you want to play you have to say so in your non-anonymous Apolyton account. Otherwise I have no idea who you are. We need a minimum of one more to start, but if more are interested we can absolutely accommodate more players. Now is your last chance!

We also need a host for the game. Robert said he'd prefer not to host this one (but could if absolutely necessary). Can anyone host?
Yes I can host the next DoE! I also want to play though...

I ALSO have been working on a packed Europe, raging barbs, Deity AI Earth map with plentiful localized resources. It's a beaut... If I do say so myself, and perfect for a Diplogame. I even wrote a customized rulset and started integrating the Miss for the game (Next War, no score)... Now i see I missed the boat on this one... Ah well. So the Map i made is 18 players, and I would like to share and discuss with any interested players.

@-Ozzy- You can mod AI difficulty by using the text editor on the Worldbuilder save of the game file. You have to also do it manually for each civ, but it works. If you can post or send me the worldbuilder save I can do it for you and post it or send it back to you

I've done that. We just aren't sure whether that actually holds for when the game begins. I did a few trials in SP and despite being set in the WorldBuilder file to various different difficulties the AI always had production bonuses relative to what difficulty I picked as player. I don't know whether that changes or not in MP, I didn't test that. But I've set the difficulty for all the AI to be two easier then noble/monarch as we discussed earlier. If it works, then great! If not, then oh well.

Hasn't started yet. They are still working on getting the game hosted. You can follow along here:

          • So I had an idea. What do you guys think about having royal families? Like we would track the lineage of our royals and they would age (at maybe 1 year for every 2 turns). The main use for this would be marriage alliances between nations, and of course the casus belli that could be cause by disputes between nobles. Would anyone be willing to do this with me? Of course I'm mainly talking to the players in Europe, but if the majority of the players did this it could be pretty interesting.

            • Up for that for sure, even though I'm Khmer now (not interested in trades). Always wished I could somehow merge the character component of Total War with Civ somehow.

                I think I just had a nerdgasm.

Crusader Kings is somewhat like that...

                • Yes, Crusader Kings is nice and their family tree is unsurpassed, I reinvented it few months ago. What about CK2? Is it coming to life any soon?

                      • Oh dear... I am pretty sure I have no idea what I'm getting myself into here. :-P This is my first time I've ever done a Civ IV game on PitBoss, let alone diplogaming, so would someone be so kind as to answer some quick questions for me?
                        1. Do we need to create secondary accounts for our nations? I think I remember someone mentioning that in another thread; if that's the case, what's the format for the username?
                        2. I downloaded the attachment file above, but I'm not sure where to extract the files to and what to do with it. Help?
                        3. In the story threads, do we need to roleplay true to our nation's culture/history (I don't know a thing about Korean culture or history, so I may have to do some reading on Wikipedia for this), or is it a bit more freeform?
                        4. Added: When I connect to the server and it asks for the player name, should I enter in my screenname here or my ruler name?

That's all I can think of... I'm sure there's plenty of other things I'm missing, so if you want to mention anything a complete newbie would benefit from, I'm all ears!

                        • I can answer the third, it is more freeform. You can be as historical as you want. I am basing the backstory of my nation on actual history, but after that I will mostly be using history just for inspiration, rather than something guiding my actions. As for relations with other nations at the start of the game, I will consider everyone at neutral (accept of course for those I'm at war with, and heritics) and build relations from there.

I am unsure myself about the rest. I'm sure Ozzy, as the main organizer, will be able to answer the rest.

EDIT: Sorry, I also know where to put the mod folder. You extract it to the Mods folder in
                          Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS

EDIT: Well its not working for me, so perhaps my advice on where to put it is wrong. Whenever I log on it comes up with a message and it says "Save file is protected to ensure assets in Mods folder have not been changed" and it crashes to the desktop. I mad an exception in my firewall for the civ 4 program, do I have to make an exception for the server? I hope I don't have to port forward...

                            Good questions!

                            1. You don't need other accounts. In some diplogames we decided to be anonymous and we create new user accounts so we can post on the forum and not reveal who owns which civ. But we aren't using anonymous in this game, so you can just use this account.
                            2. Put the files in the main BTS mod folder. Not in My Games. My path is: E:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods When you start up the game go to Advanced and load mod. Then pick Destiny of Empires 2 from the list.
                            3. It is up to you. Personally I like taking a more historical approach, I think it gives me quite a lot of interesting material to incorporate into my stories and I love mixing what is happening in the game with what happened in the real history. Obviously real world maps (and scenarios) are better suited for a historical role play, but it is up to you to craft a style.
                            4. Enter your ruler name. Typically I role play my rulers, and the transition of power, and dynasties and all that, so picking different rulers can be interesting stuff to write about. Or it can be a factor in your play, foreshadow your actions by picking a historical ruler known as a warmonger, or otherwise meld your game play and the story you want to create.

                            • Ok, I just logged in and played my turn and noticed some issues. The year was off, it say 290 BC instead of 1000 AD, probably because of Epic speed. I never pay attention to that stuff, but since we ended up getting cut short in DoE because I ddin't pay attention to that, I should probably get it right this time.

Also the AI players weren't set to AI (oops, forgot to mention that). So we need to reload. Sorry!

Feel free to log in and look around now while it is up.

                              • Thus far when I try to play my turn it says something about the file being closed to prevent the mod from beign altered or whatever... I am going to re-download the mod and see if that fixes it but it is still irritating.
