    Byzantium respects foreign opinion

    Voula of the Greeks,

Many of our neighbouring nations have prevailed upon the Council of Chieftans of the Byzantine people to pull back from planned punishment attacks on the Greek people in response to your invasion of our northern lands, and instead to bring peace to our continent, and to offer a prosperous future to our small neighbours the Greeks.

This is not a popular option among many Byzantines given recent events, nevertheless the Council has decided that in keeping with the tenants of our religion, and our of respect for our neighbours, we will at this moment offer an unconditional peace.

We wait to hear from you.

    Stephanus, secretary to the Council.

The Governor of the Border Province met with his advisors and they discussed many things. New plans for buidling a highway south to link to the growing dairy industys of the province and further to the other provinces.

Communications with the Incas had been established and they were invited to the Annual Provincial Games. Athletes from all over the Province met and competed in many different events. Now they invited the athletes from Inca too.

The Provicne was also renamed from Border Province to Peninsula Province in recogniton that Borders were old fashioned.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the Governor of the Western Province met with the Admiral of the Fleet to discuss the latest expedition to the North. A message had been handed to the captain of the Korza III who had been circumnavigating the Korzan lands. The Incas to the north had thought that the Western province Navy was carrying settlers and soldiers to the Inca lands. Quick thinking by the captain fo the Korza III and a change fo direction south led to a diffusing of the situation. The governor promised to meet with the Incans as soon as possible to explain the trip of the navy. It was a peaceful mission to plot the lands around the Korzan Islands.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the Northern Province, the governor was pleased with the latest figures collected by his Tax Department. The annual levies were returning the most ever and the treasury was growing again. A celebration was due soon to applaud the efforts of the Fishing Fleet. The largest haul ever and with plans to expand to other fishing sites to the far north too.

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To the East the Black Skinned people were still being annoying, but the new Axe brigades stationed in the Hills were making great in roads.

The governors of the East met and planned the new foudning of further settlements. Including a new Island Settlement.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Governor of the Western Island was keen to meet the peoples of the world and so began the expedition of Rizano. He appointed the Leuitenant Governor in charge of the island and begun exploration to the Far West. He met more black skinned people who were slain remorselessly by the Red Cross bearing people. As the expedtion of horse drawn carraiges travelled further west they encountered ruins of old citys and finally the grand citys of the English. The governor met many industrious English workers and spent months learning their language.

Further explorations were planned and signs of many other peoples was seen

        Sanitas Galena

Roman Herbalists have perfected a blend of herbs that boost our civilization's health. After experimenting with the herbs for a trial period, the Master Aelius Galenus and his apprentices finally managed to perfect the balance of the poisonous plants that provide us with such benefits. They call it Sanitas Galena, and it is for sale freely in all Roman lands.

Doctor Galenus thanks all those patients who died for the Roman cause trying out the different experimental medicinal compositions. Their families will be taken care of and their spirits are prayed for at the temple of Aesculapius

          Treachery uncovered in Egypt

Nefertus and Rochha, secondary aides to the Pharaoh, met in an alley near the great Memphis square.

          “Is it true?” Nefertus asked.
“It is so”, Rochha answered. “The Pharaoh is dead. He has been dead for a few years, since the attack by several Nile crocodiles. Instead of the rumor that he was so disfigured that he no longer came outside, it turns out the attack was fatal and the land has been ruled by his advisors since. They have neglected their duties and ruined our economy, all because of their hunger for power. Also, since the Pharaoh was with so many virgins, it was unclear for a long time which was his firstborn son. However, we have found him and confronted the advisors. After much discussion and pelting each other with sugar dates, some of the advisors realized that it was better to back the new successor, as his name has already reached our troops and the rumor goes that Commander Chopnot is backing him.”

“What is his name, pray tell me”, Nefertus begged.
“His name is Hor-Aha, God of Egypt”, Rochha said, looking up at the heavens. “The funeral of Meni will be held in a month’s time, even though his body has already been embalmed a long time ago. There is also a rumor that Pharaoh Hor-Aha is planning something for the advisors who were responsible for the years of treachery and falsehood. He wants to set an example.”
“Praise Hor-Aha, God of Egypt”, said Nefertus.
"Praise Hor-Aha, God of Egypt", said Rochha.

            Invitation to all civilizations

            To all civilizations:

Pharaoh Meni has passed to the heavens. We invite you to Memphis, the City of Gold, to witness his ascension to his heavenly throne.

Pharaoh Meni’s heir will ascend his earthly throne shortly thereafter. Great festivities have been planned, with a weeklong celebration and a royal banquet. The new Pharaoh, Hor-Aha, wishes to meet you all at this banquet, to share his wealth and hospitality with the other great rulers of our world and to renew our acquaintances.

May Horus watch over you all,

            Pharaoh Hor-Aha, God of Egypt.

The Great Korta heard from Djenne that the citizens were worshiping a new god named Sha'Tur. Angered that his people were defying his order, he traveled to the coast to provide his decree in person. Upon arriving at Djenne, he encountered Indian missionaries intent to spread the word about this new religion. Thankfully, before he could toss these missionaries into the darkest corner of a dungeon for heracy, Djenne's spiritual advisor stepped forth.

"Great Korta, these men speak truth. Their god is our god. We call god Kaputu. They call god Sha'Tur. Same thing. They promote peace and enlightenment, same as us for hundreds of years."

The Great Korta consulted with his other advisors and permitted the missionaries to speak. The missionaries quickly explained their position and that they followed the scrolls of Tao. The Great Korta looked at the scrolls, noticing a picture of a little bear, stuffed with fluff. He was humored at the picture and laughed heartily. "I am humored with your god and accept you spreading Tao across the land." The missionaries bowed to The Great Korta and quickly scattered to spread the joy of Tao.

After a long trip brother Vijay has returned to Delphi from Mali land. He went directly to the Parthenon where high priest Kordush has waited his report.

                -So., how did it go?
-umm.. It was not easy, the Mali people were already worshipping a God and it was even forbidden to turn to other Gods by the authorities so we hav..
-But you did manage to help them see the truth, right? Did they abandon their old belief to follow the true path?
-erhm.. yes and no.. I mean not exactly..*then brother Vijay explained the situation to the high priest*
-Hmm.. they found it humorous? the Book of Sha'Tao? I'm not sure they got the full picture yet.. But it doesnt matter: as long as they worship according the teachings of the Tao it's alright, we will send more missionary to teach our brothers further.
                -I will return to cont..
-No! You did well brother Vijay, and now I have an even bigger assignment for you. As you must have heard our fishermen have contacted people living accross the sea, the Quechua..rumored to have cities as big as ours and even the walls are covered with gold.. In the name of the God and by the order of our King ships are being built as we speak. We will send diplomats, traders and explorers accross the big water.. and missionaries of course. You will lead them, Vijay and you will spread the words of Tao to all the unbelievers...

The Gods must have punished us..... While our heavily much better trained armies started their attack on Hellespontos, they fell on by one. All generals gathered at the main square of VoulaPoli, to discuss the war..... After Long hours of debate a slight majority voted in favour of ending the war. A messenger is send to Byzantium, to sign the peace treaty.

The Byzantine warriors looked once more at the heaps of Greek dead with grim satisfaction. Now in the south, just as in the north, the Greeks had come arrogantly trying to seize Byzantine farms and lands, and had been utterly defeated. Greek militarism is in tatters - their nation becoming ever more backward, their young men dead generation after generation thrown against Byzantine superior discipline and tactics. And all for what?

But there was a tiedness in the Byzantine soul too. Was it in vain to hope that now perhaps from the ocean of blood a new relationship could emerge, in which these two peoples who share the same language could live in friendship? Perhaps now seeing again Byzantine military prowess the Greeks could open their eyes to see Byzantium's desire to support its weaker neighbour.

                      Peace!

The word rang around the council of chieftans. "We have peace." The details were still emerging from the nobles negotiating in front of the walls of Hellespontos - gifts in both directions, sharing the expertise of our peoples, not just an absence of war but friendship, the Byzantines supporting their smaller neighbours ...

But that night the details did not matter. Peace!

Lone Horn carried on his voyage of exploration. He sailed further north and west and saw strange tribes from his canoe. He met a tribe who showed him sacred silvery shiny objects and then they had feast of roasted pig on the beach.. Lone Horn took out another pipe of peace, lit it, inhaled and offered it to the tribal chiefs. This tribe seemed to have a better understanding of the ritual and its meaning, and a better grasp of language.

With fresh supplies Lone Horn set of again on his journey. The wind caught the ‘hide’ sail and carried him quite speedily to further shores.

However when he reached the shores of ‘White Land’ and looked for signs of welcome, and the right to progress, no such open welcome was forthcoming. The inhabitants were silent and cross. Lone Horn set out to sail elsewhere.

Meanwhile back in ‘Poverty point’, ‘Spotted wolf’ watched the skies for smoke. It was getting more difficult to distinguish smoke signals from clouds.

At ‘Poverty Point’. ‘Spotted Wolf’ had constructed another fishing canoe and with the finding of a shoal of fish, the village started to reap the benefit.
I have seen that in any great undertaking it is not enough for a man to depend simply upon himself.

Greetings near and far away kingdoms

My name is Clandit. I have been given the task by my older brother Elizar to lead the Red Cross people.

                            Red Cross people Relations/Foreign Policies:

                            West:

Greek – Normal relations and open borders. I am glad to see Peace back in their lands. Open for assistance in rebuilding and further development if needed.

Arabia – Normal relations and open borders. Already Islam has found its way into one of our cities. Looking forward to closer relations.

Rome – Normal relations. Have been told that no replies have been send to our latest letters. Communications need to be improved.

                            South:

Big Water – Main Red Cross fishing industry – plan to increase this year’s yield.

                            West:

Korzan – Normal relations and open borders. Little to none diplomacy I wonder why. Korzan scouting Red Cross lands – they are welcomed. But a letter of some sort would be even more welcomed from their mainland.

Natives American – Nothing on file. Relations haven’t been established yet. I am told that a diplomatic request was never send to ask and explain why we should open borders with them. The luck of any prior communications forced my brother to decline the request of open borders. I hope that next time we are approached with a more proper diplomacy.

Barbarians – They come without warning and destroy all that is build. Solution kill them all.

Inca – Good relations. My brother signed a mutual protection treaty which I will continue to respect and honor if called on. Goal improve communication send a Red Cross ambassador to their lands.

Egypt – Little contact – Plan on building closer relations.

                            North:

Byzantine – Local legends has it that my people and these Byzantine come from the same beginning. Statues: Solid/Good relations and open borders. I welcome their religion into my lands. Red Cross religion policy is tolerance to all world religion, so all are welcomed into our lands. Goal establish trade and even closer relations.

Meni, god of the Egyptians, died
During and Egyptian ceremonial he ascended into heaven
                              The Egyptian people mourned
Meni approached the gates of heaven.

                              The gates of heaven
Their splendor and the beauty were greater
                              Then everything on earth.
                              Only the gods could enter
The great gods of ancient times
                              The gates opened
A figure was seen approaching Meni
                              A divine being
                              Meni looked up
                              A hand was risen
The power and the strength of this God showed
                              Majesty and awareness
                              Beauty and youth
                              A well fed deity
                              A hairy deity
                              "PAY!" he summoned Meni.
Force is always beside the point when subtlety will serve
