We are insulted by the insinuation by Portugal that our proud army was assembled by the Khmer. Our proud fighting men were born, raised, trained, and equipped purely in their ROCKIN' homeland. The civilians of occupied Silver City can confirm that there is not a single Thai speaker in the bunch.

The Metalheads are a proud and strong nation and we can build our military just fine on our own, thank you very much.

As for the Other Offensive Comment by the Spanish, our spies have been watching your land for decades. We observed remarkably little change in your troop levels, positions, or status for many decades. Suddenly, about two-three turns before our troops arrived in Spanish lands and before war was declared you upgraded three or four units in Silver City to Machine Guns, and several old siege units were replaced with modern canon. Undefended cities were suddenly given proper defense and other troop movements were observed.

The fact that your military was stagnant for so long and suddenly experienced a burst of activity two to three turns before war began indicates that you did, indeed, have awareness of what would soon occur. The claim also that you weren't able to upgrade troops is also false as we observed many upgrades on the eve of war. Quite unfortunate for us in fact, but the result is still the same.

We will negotiate peace terms soon. But not yet. We hope you are more accommodating than the Maya in defeat.

I trust you will draw this war to a conclusion swiftly.

Khmer intelligence suggests that Pantev may be sending two transports of units to Spain. They are currently on the Eastern shoreline of New Portugal.

Given the ancient and deep ties between these two civilizations it is not surprising if this is true but I ask you Lars, should we proposition Portugal as to the facts of the case? And, in terms of world opinion, is it reasonable that a super power involve herself in a Meduian war?

Our intelligence could be entirely wrong but please advise your thoughts on the matter as it may influence your position on your peace talks with Spain. I would suggest that any foreign interference would prolong the war to Spains utter disadvantage.

OOC. I thought there was meant to be a storyline behind the lead up to war. One post in the lead up to a potential conflict is not really a storyline. Unfortunately due to real life I was not able to play my turns, where I would have been able to upgrade units, now that opportunity is lost having two turns of war go against me. Unfortunately this game has not lived up to my expectations.

ooc Without sounding too critical I think it's up to everyone to create a game dynamic. This means concentrating on each turn and each post.

It hasn't lived up to anyone's expectations because of this lack of commitment I dare to suggest.

I fear that internal events in Rome have removed me from the international stage for too long. Forgive me.

I was horrified to hear of the assassination of my dear friend Rostislav here in Satricum. I launched an immeidate investigate of the matter, however it has not been possible to reach a firm conclusion. There are many Russians within Roman cities such is the long friendship within the Pax Romana; there are certainly dissertant groups present in Satricum, though they have never been violent before. On the other hand, it is well known that many powerful nations disapproved of Rostislav's approach to international diplomacy - indeed I myself several times had reason to ask Rostislav to calm down.

Further afield, I am gravely concerned about the current events on the Meduian continent.

Therefore I have suspended the Congress at Satricum. In these difficult days all of us need to attend to affairs at home to ensure the peace and stability of our world.

It has come to our attention that troops are enroute from New Portugal to Spain. Delivery of these troops will be considered an act of war and will widen this conflict far beyond its current point. We demand Portugal turn back immediately.

Unlike the recent wars on your continent which were horribly mismatched, this is a fair war between equally matched powers. The involvement of a superpower would tip the scales quite clearly in one direction which would require a rebalancing. Such a rebalancing would be dangerous for the whole world.

Once again, we demand your ships turn back.

We ask the many nations of the world to condemn such threatening behavior by Portugal.

You have 48 hrs to seek peaceful ending of your aggression towards the Spanish people. If you continue your unlawful war, a war of greed you will be at war with Portugal. I do not care who stand besides you, Portugal is fully prepared to meet any threats. Your war of conquest has to stop. I advice you to take what you have now and seek peace ASAP.

Khmer I ask that you reason with Ozzy and have him stop his advance. Again I will not have Spain be taken so easily without even a current leadership. Also Portuguese involvement is no surprise here, it is well known that we have had very close relations with the Spanish people. Our peace force will be stations so India can't advance and take other Spanish cities.

Well if you do not want me to advance any closer towards the Metal invaders, please do send your tanks to stop that advance so peace talks can starts.

As the biggest power on *your* continent you did nothing when the 2nd and 4th biggest powers carved up the 5th largest. Now when two civs who were within 20 points of each other go to war you pretend it is somehow unjust or unlawful.

Menelaus II, Emperor of Sparta, Japan and Korea, raised his voice and addressed all leaders gathered at Satricum.

"First all I must say 'thanks' to Marcus of Rome for the hospitality we met here in Satricum! Thanks for calling us together to discuss current and recent world affairs.
There three issues I want to discuss:

First of all, regarding the Roman occupation of Maya,...."

suddenly a masked men entered the room, 5 shots were fired at the stage.
Menelaus moved his hand to his chest. His opened his mouth. Then a 6th bullet hit him between his eyes. He dropped backwards from the stage.
People screamed. Then the masked men shot some random people in the audience. Everybody tried to escape. In all the turmoil the masked men left the room again. Nobody ever saw him again.

Menelaus was dead.
