I guess I could be persuaded on 4. Until we get a few boneheads who gobble up the Toltec religion and other obscure ones and we find ourselves without fun ones like Christianity or Islam.

Well, my line of reasoning was that the religions would fit better with certain civilizations (in hopes that people would pick religions based on their civ's culture or based on plans for a storyline). So you could have the Egyptians practising the worship of Ra and it would make more sense, or a Zoroastrian Persia, or a Asa/Aesir Viking nation. That is the general idea, I'm sure at the outset there will be a lot of people who may go after the new religions simply because they are new, but I think in general they will try and stick to their country's historic religion. What I was going for was to extend the religions to encompass more nationalities, so I thought the adition of an African religion (Voodoo is actually called Vodun in Africa, so I might change the name of this) or a Hellenic type religion (for the Romans and Greeks) may be a better way to go. That way a Roman player could use a Hellenic Type Pantheon (some of these names can be changed obviously) whereas you would have a Byzantine using Christianity. That is what I was thinking, or if you wanted to be the Vikings and Christianity is already taken you could go for the Norse religion (which I am thinking of making into a more general northern European Paganism, so countries like the Celts and even Russians could use it etc.) The whole idea was just to add spice to the storylines. But the game itself will not be affected. Also you don't have to play with these new religions, it only includes them if you select "Choose Religion" so if it gets out of hand we don't have to continue using them, but I think most people will like to have the option.
So possibility four looks like its still up for discussion. As I said before I personally don't think we need 1 and 2 at all (three is DOA). But I would like some convincing on the UN Units and Embassies, and beyond that maybe some discussion as to how we would integrate them, especially the UN Units, and what their effects and powers would be.

Here are a few preview shots of what we are working on; From top-left and clockwise we have American Knights, these are some missionary graphics for the extra religions - Voodoo Missionary, Hellenic Missionary, Aesir Missionary, Toletec Missionary - if we decide to add them in. There's a Voodoo temple, part of the image that comes up when you found Olympian Pantheon (I think we are going to call it Hellenic Mythos), the Aesir Holy Shrine, and finally a Spartan Phalanx (looks like its based on that movie the 300, and they are actually macemen in the game and called Heavy Footman).Last edited by Pitboss Korea; September 14, 2008, 01:56.

I don't see these as new religions per se, but more of an addition of extra symbols and graphics to help the creativity of diplo players in coming up with custom religions in story.
I think there is little fear of Christianity being left out, I've noticed its one of the more popular religions in most diplo games.
@capo: Why Voudhun not African Animalism or Paganism?Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

Because Vodun is more specific, otherwise I would call Aesir European Paganism instead, or Olympic Pantheon Mediterranean Polytheism.
But as far as the name/graphic/changes go we could put in any religions really, but we should have a limit and I think four is a good limit. But I am nto dead-set on any of these names so if you have a better idea we should go with it.
I'd rather NOT make it General though, for instance I would take Voodoo or Vodun over African Paganism/Animism. Or Nahualism for the "Toletc Religion" (which is a bad name because its based on one group of people and the word Toletec means something like sculptor or artist). When they made this religion mod they wanted the religions to be more generalized, but I want to go in the other direction.
And you are right, these religions don't change a thing they just add my dynamic faiths that people can now use instead of the original ones. And I think it can help maintain or portray a specific culture you want, like the Maya in our game could have founded Nahualism rather than Taoism and it would have fit a lot better for them. I think this makes it ten times better. For stories at least.
Here are the changes I was thinking of making though, well to the names;
Olympic Pantheon - Hellenic Mythos
Aseir (I was probably going to leave this)
Voodoo - Vodun/Voudon
Shinto (keep this)
Zoroastrianism (keep this)
Presedjt - Amun-Ra, I think Amun-Ra sounds better
Toltec Religion - NahualismLast edited by Pitboss Korea; September 14, 2008, 17:20.

I just realized that it is pointless to discuss whether or not to put in the new religions anyway, because you have to select choose religion to begin with, so if we don't want to play with them we can simply turn that option off, and if people can choose their religions anyway what's the difference? Also I'm sure after the test game(s) go by the novelty of the new ones will wear off anyway.
@Ozzy; I am surprised, but happy, that the Skins actually won that game, the Saints were supposed to be really good this year. NFC East teams are always tough to beat though, especially at home and especially at a stadium that gets as loud as the Redskins'."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. That's something that I'm not sure how to do. But, again, if you want to look up the XML and Python you would need to do that I'd be happy to add it in, and I can create a generic religion graphic. The only problem is everything would be generic, the temple, the monastery, the cathedral and the shrine.
Besides that, I think you'd have trouble spreading a religion called Razism."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

I was joking about spreading it.
You could probably just role-play the religion, or name its chief deity/belief system "Raz" or something.
I could also have added Rastafarianism, which at least has the word Ras in it."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

I'm up for learning SML too... although I've never heard of it, and I thought I'd heard of almost every programming language under the sun. Not that I'm very fluent in most of them, but still...Ceeforee v0.1 - The Unofficial Civ 4 Editor -= Something no Civ Modder should ever be without =- Last Updated: 27/03/2009

I'm having a hard time getting this TGA file to read properly. I tried to put in new symbols for Zoroastrianism, Olypmic Pantheon, The Egyptian Religion, and Toltec Faith.
I got all of the symbols to work except for both Toltec symbols (regular and holy city) and the holy city symbol for the Egyptian religion. I tried moving them around (thinking I didn't put them in the exact spot they need to be in) and that didn't work either. Instead I got a coal resource symbol, a silver resource symbol, and an elephant resource symbol. I don't really know much about this aspect of modding (or any aspects really), and I can't seem to figure it out. Would anyone like to volunteer giving this a shot? I can send you all of the appropriate graphics you need (although they are all in the warlords files), but if anyone is good at this kind of thing and wouldn't mind helping out that would be great."Our cause is in the hands of fate.
