hummm... it appears that in Civ4, GNP is actually simply the amount of gold in the treasury right now...
The richest player has 24 and the poorest has 17. I'm (presumable joint) 14th with 18 (+1/turn). I'm also producing +10 beakers @ 90%.Ceeforee v0.1 - The Unofficial Civ 4 Editor -= Something no Civ Modder should ever be without =- Last Updated: 27/03/2009

Random events are ON.
@ Russia, great play on words with your last story post, highly entertaining.
Here is a link to a highly informative explanation of what the demographics actually mean, including GNP. (Micromanagers are going to love this)
But to answer the question in short...
GNP (in BTS) = Total commerce + total culture + total espionage + (total research * research bonus) – expenses.Last edited by Pitboss Maya; June 17, 2008, 21:36.

In BTS the GNP is not just about the commerce. The GNP also includes the beakers, culture and espionage points produced in each turn. All these are calculated with the effects of improvements taken into account. Therefore the GNP calculation is;
Total commerce + total culture + total espionage + (total research * research bonus) – expenses.
The research bonus is what you get from knowing the prerequisite and other nations you have met who know the tech you are researching, so your GNP can increase by your neighbour discovering the tech you’re currently researching. If you look at the F2 screen it gives you the totals in the left hand column and the expenses in the right column, however the research figure doesn’t take into account the research bonus.
Total commerce + total culture + total espionage + (total research * research bonus) – expenses:
1.20 + 2.00 + 4.00 + (10.80 * 1) - 0 = 18
Values are always rounded down (never up), so, I'm only getting +1/turn gold and +10/turn beakersLast edited by MMC; June 17, 2008, 21:42.Ceeforee v0.1 - The Unofficial Civ 4 Editor -= Something no Civ Modder should ever be without =- Last Updated: 27/03/2009

Given that you are currently in second-to-butt-place with 17 other players, any advice should be taken to heart - not saying that you have to use it, but just to consider it (without falling to sleep over it).

didnt see any advice only calcualtions of numbers
Hoepfully tonight when i get home my Worker might have something to do.
With no exploration now, i jsut waiting for someome to come find me, and hoping that i can research defencive techs enough to hold off barbs when they come.
I know tht at even the lower levles , barbs axe weilders will destroy puny warriers, so i hoping that at this level we palying at the barb warriers dont beat warriers.
I think i am falling behind too fast already. but am continuing on, but i think that once another tribe meets me , unless they take pity on me and offer free things, i wont have anything to trade with them for techs and stuff.

I suspect that the Vikings are moaning so that other civs will cut them slack, as part of a deliberate strategy to maximize their "helplessness" so as to hit us completely and totally by surprise when their berserkers run over our axemen...
As for barbs... A barb warrior vs your warrior has a 50% chance. Put yours on a hill, forest, fortify it, or in a city, that odds grows better. But I cannot stress this enough:
GET ARCHERY!!! On a huge map such as this, barbarians will spawn in amazing amounts and Warriors are useless. Even bears will kill them, let alone barb archers. If you need time to hook up your copper or horses, build lots of archers and station them on hills inside and outside your cultural borders as sentinels. An upgraded archer (kill some animals) fortified on a hill (especially if forested) should be able to fend off even barb axemen.
And don't give up yet. You haven't even begun to bring your financial trait to bear. ( <- to Russia with love )
Also, that Jaguar is a bit... AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
An iron age unit in the pre-bronze times That Jag is like a demigod. Animals will die to it giving it easy xp. With 1 Woodsman upgrade it will have Woodsman II, making it lightning fast. With another 3 xp (for a total of 5) a city raider bonus will make this monster of a unit, a scourge that can in practice destroy any civilization that does not yet have copper or archers.
I demand that these weapons of mass destruction be disbanded!!Diplogamer formerly known as LzPrst

BTW This game is at Monarch level according to the Settings Page.
I wondered about the GNP calculations. Thx for posting this.
So how do you know who leads in GPT after expenses?"Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "
