  • As a totally separate issue I am quite bothered about a few things in this diplo game.

A lot of things seem quite wrong and player motivations are quite bizarre as I see it. I'm not just talking about the Dutch experience but war in general is way out of control and this game can only end in a nuke fest and players will quit anyway as they have in several other non finished diplo games (not me though).

HOTW 9 and 11 never finished because of impending or actual nuke festing. This is way non-diplo by definition and I learnt this the hard way from HOTW4 in Civ 2 - these brilliant Civ2 games got killed by war.

I think cap capturing should be totally banned no matter what - maybe the same for holy cities.

Maybe the domination victory should be unchecked but it will never happen I guess.

I'm starting to think that Civ 4 has a flaw. Not by design - it's a brilliant game. But because in MP if 2 civs are at war and it takes a long time the other civs have little to do. I don't see this as the fault of the warring parties but it is a problem of course.

    • Cyber rocks

      Pitboss is a definite solution.

It gives me 8 hours to play my turns but I may never sleep...

I've asked Cyber if he could multi-host pitboss games. He's not too keen but he's the man of the moment!

His organizational contribution to civ games is nothing short of phenomenal.

      • Well guys, you can sleep if you decide on 12h or 24h turns. I think that would be better.

Also Nuke fests are fun, since untill recently nukes where very very underpowered. They are still weak. Worst case scenario? The save is turned into a simple scenario by a voulnteer. And relaunched as the Second Dark Age of Terra (SDAT) game. Think of the fun... If a player can't handle droping from first place and becoming a glowing third world country then he shouldn't be playing diplo. You see this makes the game almost anew, a realistic nuclear war, like the once the score system encourages would be a wonderfull way to make weak civs like Mali, Ottomans or even the moderat power of Russia important in the game. They have played and have been last place for a long time. Civs rise and civs fall, as long as the war is done in a realistic fashion. A missle crisis or looming total defeat of convetional forces are realistic things that would triger a global thermonuclear war. And since the patch, the world would only loose its forrests, to bad I would have loved to see a desert Terra.

In any case this is just a interested outsiders perspective. BTW What is this about the Dutch experience? You guys should post more in the story thread. I myself have always looked forward to taking 20 min at the end of the week and reading up on what is going on in Terra.

PS I do think people sometimes forget that diplo games are entertainment to far more people than just the players involved.

          • Just a heads up in cae anyway still wants to play with me, I am working tomorrow - most unusually (the place I work merges 3 organisations into one brand new organisation on July 1/Tues. I'm deploying a major database system for 300 staff - should be on the news in some parts of the world)

But really this game should be pitboss.

However, If I play another MP session I've decided I'm not going to be rushed and I'm going to play my turns properly despite my apology for what you see as slow turns.

I need to play them properly and not be rushed into errors.

Slow turns is not slow game and I never complain about others long turns.

But pitboss is perfect for my play and I recommend that for many more diplo games.

I'll be building a dedicated pitboss server in a few months which might help us.

                • I can pretty much only do pitboss games for a few months I reckon.

FYI: Film Australia, The Australian Film Commission and the Film Finance Corporation have merged into one new government agency called "Screen Australia".

Unbelievable politics going on - it's a stupid idea. Howard started it, Rudd finished it.

So far I still have a job - a very busy one!

                    • Guys, guys

*sigh* I leave you for a month and the game freezes. Is it that hard to PM Cyber and say pretty please?

So is there perhaps a spot I could take? I really hope there is, it was crazy fun with you guys... I can play pitboss, I won't be able to do normal sessions for some time.

The Incas where already the most powerful civ to start with.

                          BTW No "welcome back"? :'(

                          • Welcome back

Inca likes being powerful (well you are right we were always powerful, but weak or at best equal on military compare to the other top two nations) Now things are a bit different

Doesn't that just encourage everyone to band together and try to nuke you?
