Oh yeah, and any thoughts about playing it on some type of specific map? Such as an "Asian" map? We could just use Mongolia, China (possibly two or more clans), Korea, Japan, Khmer, India, etc.?

Or Europe, more options; Rome, Greece, Byzantium/Turkey, Russia, Germany, Austria (HRE), France, England, Celts, Spain, Portugal, Vikings, etc...?

I'll try to alleviate the confusion.

            HOTWXI (11) is currently running.
HOTWX (10) is being fired up asap as an epic speed testing ground for new rules + victory system. regular diplogame, but with some carefully chosen rules to encourage dynamic diplomacy.
HOTWXII (12) is what you are planning to start here I believe.

My thoughts were that HOTW11 should end before HOTW12 begins. But we can start HOTW10 right away since it will be shorter due to epic gamespeed. Most likely 11 will end first. 12 will start, and soon after that 10 would end.

The only major question is time slot. I would like HOTW12 to be in a time slot that I can likely commit to more safely than the current time slot (friday evening/friday night/saturday morning, USA/Europe/Australia respectively). Since it is such a long time commitment I would like a time slot that is better for me. I just can't be trusted not to have a few beers on a friday night for months and months!

Also, I suggest that if this game is played as a preset map, like Europe or Asia (would be amazing fun I suspect ) then the other new game HOTW10, should be a random map, so that people have something to chose from.

So. Those of you who are most certainly playing, what is your vote for map type?

            1. Europe
            2. Asia
            3. Random Terra/Big_and_small/Continents
            4. Other (Middle east, Mediterranean, Earth)

Hmm, I'm not quite ready to return from my break yet, but with Capo coming back... it is tempting.

A modest, nitpicky suggestion, if the game is played on a regional map (Europe, Asia, etc) then don't use the HOTW name. Go with Tales from the European Front or something else. Or The History of Asia or something.

Also, I highly recommend my victory conditions.

For #12 I think an orient theme would be cool. The addition of Khlmar means we could host up to 5 civs (Mongolia, China, Japan, Klmar, Korea).

Expand that to all of asia and we could include a handful of others like persia, india, and russia.

                  it's Khmer, Pinchak.

we need more than 5. split china into several kingdoms? or extend map to include india, russia, persia, and the turks. (the ottoman turks originated from central asia, maybe in this history they'll go east...)

The trouble with an Asian map though is the extreme amount of land.

A small map would have Korea, Japan, Mongolia and China right on top of each other. A map giving each some breathing room would leave enormous expanses of land available to the west.

That is always my biggest complaint about Europe maps is there is a huge amount of land in Russia that ends up unbalancing the game.

I'll tie my participation to Ozzy's participation.
I'd like to let my next game be one with an 'all star' team. A team with experienced diplo players who are vocal, post good stories and know how IC and OOC works.

If Kuno, LzPrst, Capo, etc. are in that one (and obviously Ozzy), then I'll play.

                      Otherwise I take a break.
I'll be in 'mixed' games later again (With experienced players and new players), after the baby's been born and we've moved to our new house.

Conclusion: if Ozzy's out, I'm out, if Ozzy's in, I'll be in.
Maybe it's best to start this star-game later this year anyway.

I think that "History of the World" should only be used for World-map games.
For Terra maps we should use: "History of Terra" (like we did, for "HO'TW' 6".

If it's not a world or terra map, don't use history of the world or terra.

redesign russia to be mostly plains instead of grassland. it'll be big but unfertile, and mostly habitable along the rivers.

Another suggestion, maybe it would be VERRY diploish to play a real 'History of the World' game, by playing the "Rhye's and Fall of Civilization" mod.

All players can start using an ancient civ, and step over to newer civs later!

another baby cyber? you're planning on making your own civ in real life are you?

as for asia, design korea to have some resources and somewhat fertile. japan to have few resources but lot's of seafood and food. manchuria full of resources but not very fertile. divide the fertile parts between china into 2-3 dynasties/minor kingdoms who can vie for power. mongolia is vast but parch dry. same with the west. the northern forests are tundra forests. southeast asia is all jungle.

that way each civ will have a different challenge. japan will have lots of people, but not much production. korea will be average, but have few expansion possibilities, the chinese kingdoms will likely be bigger, but surrounded on all sides by other powers. the mongols will have small cities, but strong production. and the khmer will have to cut jungles before they can get going properly.

thinking about this, the civ's of the east have interesting traits. with the exception of the khmers, all of them are protective, or in the mongolian case, aggressive. japan being both. I would imagine a lot of fighting...

but yeah, if we decide on asia, the map would require some tweaking.
                            Genghiz Khan as Mongolia
                            Kublai Khan as Manchurian Kingdom
                            Mao as Zhao Kingdom
                            Qin as Qin Kingdom
                            Japan
                            Korea
                            Khmers
                            as themselves.

that's seven players. in what would hopefully be a somewhat balanced situation. just a suggestion. it is possible if there is the will for it.
