Map finished and posted in the story thread.
NO PEAKING!!!!
I really did a number on this map. Fairly extensive tweaking. You guys might love it and you might hate it, I can't say. At the very least I spiced things up a lot. Instead of the fairly uniform mix of desert, forest, plains, hills and grasslands all through temperate regions I tried to make the map more interesting.
I have actual mountain ranges (instead of random scatterings of peaks and hills). In general ranges trap moisture near the coast and leave the interior dry and arid. I did this a bit (but not always). But you will see some abrupt transitions from different climes at times.
I've also tried to create larger climes. Forests are bigger in spots. Plains are bigger in spots. Deserts & mountains are bigger in spots. Rivers begin in the mountains and end at the sea.
Much of the map will still probably look completely normal to you. Though there is plenty that will definitely appear abnormal for a random civ map. (though you might not guess which is which, heh).
Resource distribution is where I tweaked the most though. Basically if you don't trade a lot you are screwed. Some resources are very spread out, some are very condensed. Some will be in ample supply, some will be extremely limited to the point where not all civs will have one. Some resources will be right next door and some will be half way around the world. It should be very balanced though. (even if it may not appear that way at the beginning)

If this is going to work we should have NO incentive to figure out who our opponents are.
Only problem I see is that we cannot achive the no incentive state with regards to identifying players. Players will atempt, and will figure out who is who. Not everyone, but the more lax players will be identified.
On the other hand, where is the motive to make some attempt to hide one's idenity? In this case we DO see no incentive.
If we are going to all the trouble of dealing with these multiple loggins, multiple chat accounts, webmail, etc... then I want anomitity to work. Adding some sort of incentive increases the chances of that.
Remember, it is a pure vote. You minimize your losses by protecting your anomitity. Just one more aspect of the game, like how we gain points for diplomacy, achivements, and other good deeds, we lose points for being lax toward identity.

The way you describe the map is exactly how I did a huge Civ 2 map - using the logical climate systems from Earth on a Terra type map. Rivers must run from mountains to the sea at least!!
When you say no peaking does that include your own civ. I seem to remember in earlier HOTW games you were allowed to check your start.
lz?
In the mean time I'll just put it in the correct folder (see the test thread for the path)
I'd also be keen to open it up for testing as a group.
Ozzy, did you check all the obvious things like no cities settled; starting techs etc etc.. guess you did."Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "

Is there a free one. i can't seem to find it. All the links seem to push you down the path of buying or subscribing. I really don't need this.
Can someone email me the file uncompressed? It's not that big.

Just download winrar
it's free.
I doubt btw if it won't download the save if you've already putted it in a map somewhere. I think we've tried that before. Anyway, if it works, let us know!
Good luck! I'm going to peek at the map today :PFormerly known as "CyberShy"

Thanks CS.. I got my diplo webmail working on your server ans tested a send and reply to my other email address,,, works well. Really appreciate this.
My Diplo Polly login also works well too.
But MSN is giving me the TOTAL [censored by CS]!
Microsoft is the biggest stupidest non intelligent lump of amorphous cr@p that EVER existed!
[censored by CS b/c it may give a 'anonymity' hint]Last edited by Robert; January 25, 2008, 07:31."Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "

I got the save sorted now, thx.
I've loaded it in the Lobby ans picked my civ and ONLY gone as far as the Staging Room.
I think anonymous Lobby logins are more important than MSN.
I won't tell you what the problem is; just set up a diplo Lobby login, eg, Diplo_myciv and login with that. Trust me."Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "
