We did have some initial dramas with trying to use the patched warlords2.08, a player could not install the patch and therefore it became necessary to play with the unpatched warlords. It will be good for all players to have installed in separate folders each with its own shortcut both versions for future weeks, we intend wherever possible to play with the patched version, renaming folders prior to an uninstall and reinstall of warlords, then patching one folder only will achieve the double install. Also make sure each shortcut is named appropiately and targeted to go to the correct installation of warlords.
The game did progress well, 2 brief war declarations, followed by peace, with all players generally consolidating their empires, an expansion of some empires is expected next week with the settling of the new world commencing by some players. I had a lot of space to expand into in the old world and therefore have sufficient cities for the duration of the game, and will not personally expand to the new world. This Sunday I settled 4 or 5 new cities to my east and north and also fortified macemen in the tundra to solve the lingering problem of barbs. An unexpected surprise was the location of 3 huts in the northern tundra, noone had previously explored there, 1 hut gave me the tech metal casting. The period of stability has allowed substantial economic development, and the Trevian empire is now close to top in production, but is still lingering down the list a bit on GDP. Hopefully that will be improved in the coming week, and compensated for to some extent through the use of specialists.
A very interesting session, a late start, but a later finish meant we got 3 hours in. Vile launched a major assault onto the Trevian empire, a bigger empire, more advanced and faster production, but it has neglected some military techs, however an advanced tech, military tradition was not far away unknown to Vile.
Initially 2 cities were lost within 2 turns to vile, a 3rd was lucky to survive a major grenadier assault, being defended by a lesser number of maces mostly, but a strong culture defence and hill position allowed it to survive, plus collateral damage done by several cats. Before he could mount a repeat attempt the cavalry arrived in numbers assisted by whipping and a high tax rate that upgraded horses. All cities were recaptured plus a useless city of viles was taken by the Trevian empire before peace was declared.
With the most advanced military forces now, the Trevian empire does not expect a repeat attempt by enemies, but we are increasing our strength as a precaution and to keep future options open.
