  • Is it confirmed that Ras quit this one? In cyber's last list of players a few posts ago, he is still included.

    • I'm not sure with Ras, he's still in this threat so I assume that he's going to play with us. If you want to join us, I have no problems with a 15th player. Sounds pretty neat to me. Not sure what the others think.

You're sure that you want to sign yourself up for a game that'll last for 20+ weeks, every week 3 hours, even if you're not doing good? It's a great civ experience, but I need to ask you!

      • I just read Rasputins other civ.
I'm really bothered on how he feels like we want to play a game only to win only because some of us (not even all of us) (I'm one of them indeed) opted for a better ballanced map. That's all. Nothing else. Someone can disagree with that, fine, but are we suddenly people who only care about winning? And care nothing about the role playing?

He was not even in HOTW5, what does he know?
Why are you acting in such a strange way, Rasputin?
I concider you out for this game, now you started a new threat for your own game and have said various times that you didn't want to be included in this game.

Well, that defenitely opens a spot for you Colonel_Treize!

        • I'm a single guy in a one-bedroom apartment (flat) and I don't need to work! I live and breathe Civ and I think that a diplogame is the only "real" game of Civilization. Once again, I can commit to almost any schedule you guys agree on. I would like to be Napoleon Boneparte of the French since I see that one is not yet taken.

            • I should also mention that in the Ladder PitBoss game I am hosting, which will take longer than this one, I am number 6 in score out of 7 players currently.

              • Great! I've putted you in the list (I'll check your poly configuration tomorrow)
I'm not sure if the other players want you in so I hope that you understand that it can only be official after they agreed.

I've updated your listing in the table above.

                    • A few reasons for me not being able to play this one

                      1. I couldnt committ to palying every Saturday morning for the length of the game.

                      2. From watching and reading and havening played agaisnt a few players here, there are a number of people who have forgotten that the concept of a DIPLO was to have an alternative type of game, a few people would leave a game that didnt give them the start they wanted that would allow them to compete in the end game, I am not one of those people, I joined HOTW2 as a sub and became the long term player instead as the origina lplayer had got himself into a bad positon and could never be competitive. As i dont play to win, it didnt bother me, I took hold of his civ and played it out till the end when the players who wer e good at civ rose to the fore and played out a hell of a war.

                      3. My skill level is nowhre near where it should be, I dont play civ often, I dont enjoy civ above Settler LEvel as i cant be competitive agaisnt the AI.

                      4. Finally the personal attacks from one person here have continued to a level where i feel it would be not enjoyable to play with that person in a game.

Have fun guys, if you want a more laid back game the day after your HOTW7 game, then come join the NEW BEGINNING Game

                      • I very much agree with Lz.

Look at HOTWV, Deity was stuck with a crappy tundra start hemmed in on both sides with no where close to expand to. Yet he was one of the top civs in the game and was very close to launching the ship first at the end.

Deity didn't whine (or whinge) he made the best out of a bad situation and did very, very well. He went out and discovered new land, and made it a priority to reach the new world first - which he did (with his similarly cramped ally the Inca) and claimed a huge amount of land out there.

Germany, Inca, England & America all had cramped starts in HOTWV and they all contributed greatly to the game and had an excellent time. All were competitive.

Giving us too much starting land will hurt this game by removing that variety, novelty and challenge from the game. Throughout all human history the main source of conflict is competition for resources. A game where everyone has space for plenty of cities and all grasslands & forest is a game where no one competes for resources. Without that source of conflict the game becomes BORING.

Then the game becomes a building game. We all just hit enter and change build orders for 6 months. BOOOORING.

So please, please, please, vote NO for jungle, low sea level & balanced starts. We didn't have those settings in HOTWV and HOTWV was the best diplogame ever. Lets learn from that and keep that magic going.

I still reckon we should have low sea levels to compensate for way more players than HOTW5.

                          • ozzy thx for post, but if all civs are like Inca and England in HOTW5 we'll all just go straight for the new world.

As Frank said way long ago: we need land powers and sea powers. It's nice to have a few big civs on the mainland who don't prioritise the new world and a few desperate civs that do prioritise the new world.

I'm aiming for realism here, and I think Ozzy and LzPrst make very good points. A prior post said I was "Y" for all, but this is the updated ballot of Schtix.

Well we are playing on a Huge map. And the number of players doesn't seem to be entirely set yet with Raz leaving. But we'll see. I'd still prefer normal sea level with 13 players, but I could be ok if we went with low. If however the number of players drops to 11 or 12 then I really do think normal is best.
