          • I'm sorry I left so abrubtly, but when I said it was an emergency, it really was an emergency.

My mother and sister were in a rough car accident on the highway and me and my father had to rush to the hospital to see them. My sister was fine, a couple of scrapes, but my mother was knocked out, and was pretty beat up. They put her into light surgery, and as I write this, she still is in surgery.

I have heard that the session wasn't too great anyways, but I'm sorry I had to leave so abrubtly, and I hope you can pardon this first impression of me.

Thank you for your (hopeful) understanding.

            • Sorry to hear that.

I hope your mom is ok.

                • You didn't miss much anyway.

We struggled for 3 hours with techincal difficulties and only sneaked in 30 minutes of play.

Also the play has become distinctly UN-diplo like, with players just randomly causing trouble, doing things just because the game mechanics let them get away with it.

I just want to point out that I have past up serveral such opportunities in the past to just "do something nasty" because I had a techincal advantage, but I passed it up because I knew it would knock them out of the game. However I don't seem to get any such sympathies in return so I don't know what the point is.

                  • Knocking out someone's oil for a turn or two is hardly on par with overrunning a neighbor with tanks let me remind you.

During the Cold War there was plenty of covert ops between the two sides, but the Soviet Union didn't invade when we tried to assassinate Castro. I really think you're making too much of this.

                    • I'm talking more along the lines of jumping into the holy city back when it had a single archer in it.

You are missing the scale though. If it was even suspected that soviet agents were killing tens of thousands by blowing up oh, san antonio, or pensicola or hot springs.....then it'd have been on.

                      • Yea but blowing up an oil rig out in the desert somewhere isn't quite 9/11.

                        • Got it wrong ozzy. Spies can blow up towns, which take 60 turns to repair and lower your base GPT by 3 each. They are also roughly equivilent to flying 200 B-17s over the square and carpet bombing it. But say whatever you want.

                          • Have to agree with Frank on this.

Massive spy blitzing, which destroys an economy, is akin to talking out a civ - which we agreed is un diplo like (but not dis-allowed).

We need to talk more about this, otherwise there is no choice but massive World War, which if it takes out whole civs will ruin a brilliant game. We should all be there at the end.

Mines can be re-built in a few turns but towns take a whole game. Mass destroying towns kills a civ.

                              • Many games in Civ2 banned spies but I don't think we should that.

But Russia's motive is weird. As a player I would never do this plus I would always negotiate smartly. It's obvious that Russia is dead if this continues...
