  • On March 4th, 1613 Prime Minister Espartero died, leaving the Spanish government established by his liberal movement without their leader. In many ways the revolution finally ended with Espartero, whose policies left Spain looking more like a socialist oligarchy rather than a true Republic. Regardless, something and someone had to fill the void and Spanish elections were on the horizon. The political scene in Spain was quite eclectic; there were Marxist parties, Socialist parties, Liberal parties, Rightist parties, even parties that supported a return of a Monarch (albeit under constitutional control). This "confusion" in Spain's politics in many ways symbolized confusion throughout Terra; Spain nearly went to war with Germany, the Russian imperial family fell and was replaced with a Communist regime under Vladimir Lenin, the United Nations was established in India, and finally new charges of terrorism and espionage were being levelled at Russia and America. Amidst this tension Spain's elections resembled the conflicts in the world.

    The Political Parties and Their Leaders

    Three major parties took control over Spain in the early 1600s following the death of General Baldomero Espartero, who was the Prime Minister of the Spanish Republic. These parties were coalitions of many smaller parties that existed throughout Spain; some national and some local. Each of them had their own leader...

    The Liberal Party (Juan Prim y Prats); This party is the party of Espartero and the remnants of his followers. The once young and ambitious General Juan Prim y Prats was now the old and experienced leader of the Liberal Party. This party generally espouses the ideals of Espartero and his liberal colleagues - Free elections, free speech, free religion, free markets (you get the idea) - and wouldn't make too many changes to the current Spanish government. As far as their international stance goes they support the Marxist insurrection in Russia simply because it was a popular movement and in their minds freed the Russian people from the tyranny of the imperial family and the church in Yaroslav'l, they support the United Nations as a tool for preventing international war and to foment ideals favorable to their party. Their party is easily the most popular throughout the country and particularly in the province of Castilla, as well as in San Pedro; the provincial capital of Bolivia.


    The Traditional Party (Miguel Primo de Rivera); The Traditional Party was formed following the Marxist victory in Russia. They are ardent republicans just as the Liberal Party, except they believe in bringing back what they consider 'traditional Spanish values'. Their leader is Miguel Primo de Rivera, a former Captain under General Torres in Bolivia during the Zaragoza incident (the tension between Germany and Spain over the German colony of Bremen). The Traditional Party believes that Spain must adopt Christianity as their state religion, they believe that Fernando should be brought back to Spain as a constitutional monarch. This party is not very popular among younger Spaniards, but has a huge financial backing (many accuse the Church in Yaroslav'l of funding the Traditional Party), Despite this they have a pretty large following and stand as the biggest challenger to the Liberal Party their centers of power include Toledo, Madrid, and Zaragoza.


    The National Party (Francisco Franco y Bahamonde); The National Party is the weaker of the top three parties and considers the Liberal party too weak to deal with the realities of international politics. They espouse the ideas of Nationalism and consider the United Nations an affront to the sovreignty of every state on Terra. They get support from many members of the Spanish military, however are considered by the average Spaniard to be a dangerous group (they have been accused of comitting bank robberies, and supporting Marxist rebels in Russia and Spain). Their leader Francisco Franco comes from a military family in Zaragoza and fought under the command of Captain Miguel Primo de Rivera (leader of the Traditional party). The National Party believes that the Spanish government's main objective should be to secure Spain's supremacy by any means, they believe that the state should adapt a Socialist government and control the means of production, the resources, and the utilities of Spain, and that military service should be mandatory. They are not very popular and no city can really be called "theirs," they expect to gain a few seats in Parliament and become an important party as part of a coalition government.

    • Cultural Explosion in India

      Aided by modern technology and the tastes of a growing Indian middle class, Indian society has seen an explosion in cultural output not seen since the achievements of the reinassance.

      Broadway

      Always a mainstay in society, Indian theater exploded due to the booming economy. Madras became the focal point for this new age of stage. Exciting new plays like Bombay Dreams and Oh, Calcutta! first opened in Madras before going on tour throughout India and around the world. New, more liberal attitudes allowed performers to push the envelope creatively, with Oh, Calcutta! challenging the nation's sexual taboos in this period.



      Rock & Roll

      Further challenging taboos in the nation was the emergence of Rock & Roll. Where once music was a fine art enjoyed only by the rich and elite in Indian society, now with the advent of radio that brought music into the homes of millions of Indians, music was made for the masses. Technical innovation contributed to the music as well. When the American Les Paul first electrified a solid-body Sitar for the Gibjon Sitar Corporation of Bangalore, a new artform was created.


      Combining traditional Indian hooks with a steady beat borrowed from the American minority in Karachi, a new genre was born. The music first caught on among the ethnic American population in Karachi, but soon it caught on amongst the Indian youth of Karachi. One of those young Indians would take Rock & Roll to the mainstream. His name was Ravi Shankar, with his Gibjon Les Paul in tow, he quickly rose to be crowned the Raja of Rock & Roll. Sadly, many years later Shankar died on the toilet.

      Other groups, such as the Beatles enjoyed considerable success in India & America, and internationally.

      Bollywood

      Cinema came to India (and the world) on 7 July, 1591 with a screening of the Lhapore Brothers' Cinematograph films in Mumbai. Yet the first full length Indian made film, Raja Harischandra, (produced and directed by DG Phalke) was released in 1593. Phalke was inspired to make a film about Indian mythology. His style of film drew on emerging modern "Indian" art forms, chromolithography and photography, religious processions and performances, folk and urban theatre. This new hybrid created by Phalke became the norm immediately in three of Indian cinema's popular genres: the mythological, the devotional (films about the lives of saints) and the historical. Other genres, grouped loosely as "social films", set in contemporary India, were also established during the silent period. By 1601 the Bollywood neighborhood of Mumbai became
      the hub of Indian filmmaking.

      • The American Elections, October 12th 1612

        After months of campaining in both the Old World and Concordia the American elections took place on October 12th 1612. Early in the morning a Jewish Service was being hold in the Temple of Solomon in Washington.

        Thereafter the voting started in Robingthon, Washington, Paris, New Boston and all other cities of America. Voting offices were opened in India as well to serve the American minority in India.

        President Jackson (Andrew) served America well for a long period. The peace between India grew into an alliance and never before did the Americans experience a period of peace as long as that!

        Though the conservative democratic president had not much support under the younger generations of America. The modern times were imported from India. The teenagers wanted to enjoy Rock & Roll and the adults were eager to have the challanging musicals of Broadway in their home cities.

        "Nudity is a private thing. Nudity shouldn't be exposed on the stage. I do not believe in functional nudity to tell a story." Jackson said.

        Abraham Lincoln replied: "You're a man who has done good deed for your country, and you will be remembered as a man of honor. Can you please now make place for the modern times?"

        Lincoln won the American elections and became the new president of America. Jackson left the politics to retire to his ranch near New Boston.

        • World's Fair of 1585 Opens in Delhi

          In 1585, the biggest spectacle the world had ever seen opened with much fanfare in Delhi. Nations from all over Terra brought extravagent exhibitions to show off the greatest in modern technology. Natural wonders from Concordia were also on display.

          The fair lasted for 6 months and attracted 23 million visitors during its run. Many stars from Broadway came out, in addition to renowned political figures such as Captain Manning of England, and King Thomas Jefferson of America.

          The Chinese displayed their armored fighting vehicle, the Germans brought their enormous battleship, the Brandenburg into Delhi harbor, the Indians demonstrated early versions of the motion picture and television.
          The opening ceremonies are believed to be the most widely broadcast radio signal in history. With the newly build network of Indian broadcast towers, the entire world listened to news from the World's Fair.

          Most spectacular was the great Gupta Tower built in Delhi. This giant tower of steel rose above the great city, becoming the tallest building in the world - beating out the pyramids of China. A monument to the power of the industrial age, all who came gazed in awe at the magnificent structure. Many local Delhi residents however complained it was a big ugly eye-sore that dominated the Delhi sky-line.

          • An eclectic group of Russian exiles formed a government in exile as their motherland fell to the Red Army. Consisting of intellectuals and nobles alike, they seemed to do little more than play at being a government, dreaming of bygone days that could now never come back as they lounged in their Beijing clubrooms. Their chief agenda, in fact, seemed to be the investigation of rumors regarding the Russian royalty. Despite the Soviet statement that the entire Imperial family had been executed, these men chased rumors large and small, and in general made fools of themselves.

            All that changed when the lone surviving Romanov was found. Anastasia was 25 years old when she and her uncle Fernardo were finally found by Chinese security. She had grown into an intelligent, beautiful woman, in the cast of her grandmother Catherine, but also with a lingering sadness in her eyes that never quite dissappeared. Very quickly, she took control of the 'government-in-exile', and turned it into a true shadow government.

            Despite the wishes of the exiled nobles, Anastasia made it clear that she had no desire to revive the Romanov dynasty. "That part of history is dead and buried," she said. Instead, she based the government in exile on a mixure of American and Indian ideas. So it was that a Cabinet was formed, with the former Grand Duchess as the Prime Minister. Ever afterwards, the 'Government of the Republic of Russia' was a constant public relations thorn in the side of the Soviet administration.

            • Lenin passed away after a long and fruitful term as General Secratary. Before his death, he is said to have expressed worry about the ambition that Stalin had displayed; however, it never went further than that, and the Supreme Soviet subsequently elected Stalin as General Secretary.

              Within 10 years, Stalin had assumed iron control over the RSSR. The former IIS, redubbed the KGB after the RSSR was formed, expanded greatly under his tender. It was little wonder that China subsequently blamed the sabotage of her mines and wells on Soviet agents, though no evidence was ever found. The internal purge was far more thorough; after a heated debate, almost half of the Supreme Soviet was detained and 'taken in for questioning'. The Red Army was not spared, either; many top generals were sentenced to hard labor. Trotsky and a few of his chief associates fled to America; several others fled to China and Spain. Trotsky subsequently went underground, while he published pamplets that demonized Stalin and his Five-Year-Plans as un-Marxist.

              Stalin constantly demanded the return of the royals from China to face charges of treason. This, coupled with what China described as 'terrorist actions by foreign agents', and what Stalin described as 'the proletriat rising up against their capitalistic oppressors', led to an escalation of tensions between the two nations. As China ordered a full mobilization of her military, the Red Army, too, prepared for conflict.

              The Russian government in exile, led by Anastasia, viewed these developments with increasing dismay. Anastasia offerred to put herself on trial in a neutral country (against the loud protests of her fellow cabinet members), if it would prevent a renewed bloodbath in her homeland. Stalin rejected the proposal out of hand, insisting that 'Russian traitors be tried by the Russians on Russian soil'. As international tensions reached a head, Indian and American diplomats converged on Moscow to meet with the reculsive ruler, presumably to convince him to change his mind.

                      A change in Germany

                      Germany has experienced much conflict and strife both at home and in the New World.
                      With the development of new technology, and a strong alliance with the Inca and England,
                      Germany needed resources to fuel her progress!

                      Coal became a necessity for the powerplants on the main land,
                      and the coal mines controlled by Spain in Concordia seemed to be in reach of the settlers of Bremen.
                      Under emense pressure from the southern allianse and the international community (pre United Nations),
                      Germany found itself having to accept a deal of evacuating the citizens in Bremen
                      south to the older colonies and let the Spanish burn the colony to the ground.
                      Many citizens chose to fight the forced evacuation peacefully with
                      songs of Zion and Germany's Holy right to the land around the mountains of Bremen!



                      The settlers of Bremen were escorted by soldiers and engineers
                      with care through Inca territory, recieving flowers on their journey south by local Inca.

                      Inventions of the modern era

                      Stabile conditions brought by the alliance gave many new inventions to the German Faterland.
                      Industrialisation and large production capacity made a possibility of creating gigantic Battleships.
                      Germany needed Oil to fuel these new weapons of the seas!
                      Since coal was provided by the Spanish/German agreement of Bremen,
                      only an oil supply stopped Germany ruling the waves!

                      The Americans to the north had grown to become accepted by the boardering
                      German towns and a great masterpiece of art by Vincent von der Gogg secured the
                      cultural exchange with a flux of tourists in the area. A deal was struck between
                      Americans and Germans of exchanging American oil for German sheeps,
                      which the Americans needed for eeeeeh..... strategic sheep purposes!



                      The "Brandenburg" was built in no-time and shown at the Indian World exibit!
                      Afterwaeds many more sisterships were built, such as the "Bach", the "Blücher", the "Bismarck" und so weiter...
                      including escortships.



                      Meanwhile the Vright brothers made the worlds first motorized flight!
                      The world was amazed over the ingenouity of the German people at the World exebition!

                      Zionist tension

                      All the modern inventions started to stirr a longing for the spiritual in the German people.
                      Jewish synagogs were built and a new party arrose:

                      National Socialists of Zion NSZ

                      The Nationalists' main policies are to create more jobs through industrialization
                      and the increase in military spending to protect the Jewish way of life!

                      Their leader Azimov Kimpler soon got a following
                      after publishing his famous book: "Bremen's Kampf"

                      Kimpler had been an unsuccessful artist that was overshadowed by Vincent von der Gogg,
                      leading him to take up vegetarianizm to heal his tender stomach,
                      obviously causing recentment and anger!

                      The Spanish burning Bremen was humiliating and the introduction of State property
                      modelled on the Russian revolution did not help on the general publics belief in the future.
                      Kimpler saw this as an opurtunity to create a name for himself among
                      the Jewish refugees and the disgruntled general public.

                      Kimpler was a rising star in German politics, and when the United Nations called
                      for the ban on nuclear weapons (which no-one really knew what was),
                      Kimpler and the NSZ got the German parlament to vote NO.
                      Why waste a whole new theoretical line of possibilities?!?!

                      National Socialists of Zion take control

                      Humiliated by the UN referendum on a ban on nuclear wepons,
                      Kimpler got his Group Leaders together and planned a coup de etat!

                      In a night later known as the "Saphire Night" armed gangs went on a rampage in Berlin.
                      All State Offices concerned with the state property Act were burned and painted
                      with slogans such as "Communists go home!"



                      The leaders of the German parliament were rounded up from their homes
                      and forced to make Azimov Kipler Hauptfürer des Reich.
                      The news spread fast and local groups of the National Socialists of Zion on the mainland cities
                      and in Concordia (lead by the Bremen victims) soon gained controll in a coordinated action.

                      The German people soon found a new hope for the future
                      with a government based on "Action gives peace".



                      The newly created Airforce of Germany was re-named "Luftwaffe".
                      To get more volunteers, an airshow for the Hauptfuhrer Kimpler's
                      first adress to Parliament was organized.



                      Cheering crowds gathered as Kimpler lead the march through
                      Berlin towards the Parliament building:

                      "Ave Kimpler" they shouted....
