hehe. I left a party for this game. which is why I was slightly agitated (drunk) at the start. try doing that without being called a nerd luckily all my friends know that I'm a nerd anyway

probaly a good thing we didnt start actually. considering that bavarian beer WAS poured down my throat and when I heard by german units speaking german I got an irresistable urge to invade poland....

according to my limited an meagre knowledge, your setup seems correct to me cyber. only question is of course the router. send an e-mail to your ISP and ask them if that port is allowed to be forwarded/open on your router. if not, ask how you can change it. its not too difficult if you have step by step instructions

Someone posted "For me a Diplogame is", and said a bunch of funny stuff that didn't quite seem serious.

What makes a "Diplogame"? Is it the number of people? Any special rules? Is it the understanding that everyone is going to being hamming it up?

Hamming it up.... is really getting (too) into it, exaggerating situations for the heck/fun of it. Overdoing it in a dramatic role.

Well phooey, without "hamming it up" a diplogame is a game in which diplomacy is the primary means of playing against one another. Rather than fights, or simple expansion until the players are ready to fight, or just paralell playing (where all players develop, and develop, and develop until someone wins the space race), players interact constantly and create rules and treaties that go beyond anything the game is capable of doing. That is what it is in my mind.

Beyond that players will make posts, in which they describe what is going on in their empire, whether this is in the form of a "newspaper" or in the form of a story. Eventually the forums become used as an avenue for diplomacy, if you look back at the diplogame FAQ and click on the links for the actual games maybe you'd have a better understanding. The FAQ isn't really a rule-book as much as it is a compilation of diplogame precedents that Ozzy put together. To get a full understanding of what will happen you should read some of the story-threads.

If you are interested in playing the game, we begin on Fridays at 6pm (US EST) and end around 9pm, as last session was kind of a blower we are actually starting this Friday. I think we have a general pool of around 8 players, so you would be the 9th. I'm not entirely sure we'll get a full turnout so you may wind up being our 7th actual player in the end. But you have to understand the game is going to be an epic game, so you'll have to stick it out for the long haul. I would advise you understand diplogame nuances before starting one.

Now then, as for this game. Sorry about my hiatus, I had some Valentine's day crap to do, but I'm free again.

Any word on the patch from anyone? i.e., is it out yet?

If it is we should all get the patch, check our firewall settings, and again as in last week I'll be around about two hours earlier than we are supposed to start to check in with people and make sure everything goes well. We had a great turnout last week, so I'm hoping for the same this time around. Astoundingly enough it seems as if we don't have too many discouraged players, so hopefully we can make this thing work out.

If there's anything else anyone can think of that we have yet to address we should probably try and get that out of the way now.

Patch isn't out yet. They keep finding more things to fix. I'll let y'all know as soon as I do. But its definitely getting close.

That looks like what I've done; but for me the trap was that these settings had to be set in the ADSL modem settings AS WELL as the physically separate router.

I had known about this for sometime but my router refused to accept the new settings. I then logged on to the router using another PC and the settings held.

Ever since then I can host games and I believe my settings, both software and hardware are now perfect!!

With my new router settings it might be that ozzy has no trouble joning the game

arghh... so many social events happening friday nights... oh well. once again I will be able to run off and come play with you guys. likely though... alcohol will be consumed... though attempting to connect to a game for 2 1/2 hours kinda makes you more sober than what is fun
