I posted a "play-along" game here (in the AU subforum). Please tell if that leaves something to be desired

Kewl, but you should have posted it here. No one would have *****ed and not many people check out that forum

        No one would have what?

I didn't dare to post it here - never know what makes some old beards start a massive whinerant about how things are done "around here" Doesn't matter much since I doubt it would have gotten too much attention either way.

We old beards don't mind a posting of game progress WHEN it illustrates a point under discussion, such as agg AI on or off AND tech trading on or off. A lot of have not experimented with both of those off, for example.

That's because he wasn't a human in a MP game

Yeah I was lucky before I got him to pleased I guess. Though that's when it would have been easiest to deflect and made least damage.

Considering your early avoidance you're probably going to have to give it another go for us diehards.

Well, if it makes things better I did a short Asoka game before that Mansa game where Monte started 10 tiles away with a Copper in his BFC and declared at 1700BC with a stack of 10 jag/axe/char. I was actually trying to chariot rush him and couldn't get more than 50% of his power even with chopping something like 12 forests in my capital... Took a city from him before he started massing Spears. that was strike 1 for Agg AI I guess.

I tried your non-aggressive, full trading environment. In my first game (as Survyavarman) I got eaten by Shaka in a full unit rush, despite him being +7 and having open borders since about 3 turns after I found him. Our borders did not yet touch. So, an early rush by a super-aggressive freak (the other is Tok) is possible either way.

                    • Well DUH.

How many units did you have at the time?

                      • He came in 3 stacks, somewhat strung out of ~6 units each. I had 10 to start, had one city burned (of 3) and slaved about 6 more. When his 4th stack showed up w/HA and swords (8 units), I had 2 2-citizen cities and 6 units left, 2 of which were about 3 turns to healed. When my capitol fell, I hung it up. I have no desire to see the sandy waste littered with corpses screen. (I know Civ IV has no such screen, but my mind's eye still sees it from the Civ II days.)

                        • Yeah, I don't think I've ever let it get down to that point either.
