  • After having finished several games with "old" leaders, now after having installed all patches and the newest graphic drivers etc., I do not manage to finish any game with new leaders, as the game crashes sometime. The newest crash is early enough to have it uploaded here because of small file size.

I wonder if it is my machine (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ Processor, 2 gb Memory, Nvidia GForce 7650, Vista Home Premium), or if someone else has the crash, too?

Me too, patched to the latest version now (2 days ago) and still have these civilopedia crashes. rest of the game works fine.

      • In my most recent game, I have found what I consider a bug with the ability to use Cities as canals for Ships.

With an Open Border agreement with an AI Civ, I cannot enter his cities with my Ships, thus I cannot use his city as a canal to get to the ocean on the other side. But other AIs with Open Border agreements can use it.

In my game, I am on a very large continent that attaches to the south pole via a 1 square wide peninsula. The Persians have built a city there. I and practically every other AI in the game has an Open Border agreement with the Persians. I have 3 AIs that have declared war on me from the opposite side of the world, and they all use that 1 Persian city to send their fleets to my country. I currently have it blockaded with 6 Frigates, but none of my ships can pass through that Persian city, how come?

        • Interesting. The ability to use a city as a canal has been there since Civ1. Only your own cities off course. in civ1 you could even sail Battleships into inland lakes using these canals! But I agree that what they can, you should be able to do too!

Maybe something for civ5: build a panama (city) canal and ask for toll!

          • That's odd. I sail my ships in to AI cities all the time...

My new notebook and my desktop are crashing in the same way. The Dell machine (my desktop) is running Vista business, the other is XP pro. Apparently , this is not related to Windows or hardware...
              So... A bug.

              • I have NEVER had a crash with Civ4 except with flying camera mode in Warlords (flying camera didn't crash vanilla, I haven't tried it with BtS).

Now, I never do anything else on that machine other than Notepad (and nothing simultaneously at all). Gateway 388GM, 1GB, XP Home, purchased Sept. 2005.

                • Third time its happened now and I'm not sure but I think its been reported before. If it has, pardon the redundancy.
I have no ships. But I have been the first to circumnavigate the world anyway. Just a random bonus given to me cause I'm such a good guy. At least that's what I concluded. My lady, playing with me, assures me that while I'm a good guy, she was three tiles away from getting it and deserved it FAR more than I.

                  • You get the circumnavigate bonus when you have a map that goes around the world, regardless of how you got it. Map trading is just as legal

                      • The bug with the automated workers seems to be dependent on that I forced them to leave old improvements and forests.

As before, I had some workers working and some sitting in cities. When I changed the settings they all started working and havent stopped since.

                        • Some "buggish" behaeviour regarding random quests.

Sometimes I am beeing offered to fulfill quests for witch the given conditions are already beeing met by the time I receive the quest.
(for instance, a quest required me to build 8 musketmen .. but by the time I receive the quest I already had 9 of them)

At other times , quests are beeing offered so late, it is impossible to even react. (for instance, a quest need to be fulfilled before discovering Rifling but by the time the quest is offered, I was only be 2 turns away from that tech)
                          GOWIEHOWIE! Uh...does that
                          even mean anything?

                          • Yeah, once the quest has already been (or is about to be) achieved, it doesn't add much to game enjoyment. At least you still get the benefits the next turn.

                            • BTS even renamed the offical description of the bonus; it nows says "our maps have proved the world is round".

                              • Since the 3.03 patch I'm getting graphics errors. Not the kind that kill the game, but the kind that show you wrong things. For instance, the graphics of a battle are really messed up now. For example the 3 achers that represent an at full health archer unit somehow end up being 4, at times. It'll show a battle where 4 individual archers die, in battle, but then it may end with my archer unit actually wining the batle. That is, the graphics for the battle do not represent what the battle outcome actually is.
