      • When playing in an MP game, and teamed with another human player, when discovering certain technologies (you share discoveries) that provide a free specialist (i.e. Music and a Free Artist) there is a chance that the specialist is awarded to the other team member even though you researched the tech.

I'm guessing this has to do with both team members discovering the tech on the same turn and there not being a "tech discovered by" relationship that dictates who gets the specialist.

        • I don't know if it's related to the patch, but after updating, my CPU was heating up to 70C and setting off the ASUS Probe alert, when it wasn't doing that before.

          • I'm having the game hang while waiting on other civs. It only occurs if I free some recently captured cities on another continent. If I don't go with the colony option, no hang. Very frustrating since this is my first game and I'm playing a marathon game and have advanced all the way to the 1950s.

            • the Civilopedia entry for the Holkan crashes me to my desktop EVERY time i click on it regardless if i am in the game as an actual civ, or from the main menu.

this is extremely aggravating and i wonder how many other little bugs are in the Civilopedia. Does this maybe have something to do with the fact that all the units are divided by culture (Sumerian Spearman different than a Greek Spearman) and consequentially have different Civilopedia icons representing the unit, e.g. the program wont load the unit graphic because i am from a different civ than the unit is? I only speculate this because the Holkan is a unique unit, and i was the Indians when I clicked on the Civilopedia Entry...

Do you already have the newest patch (3.03) installed?
Or does this bug occur on an unpatched version?

                • yes i have the 3.03 Patch. Can somebody else verify that this is a real bug or just a problem on my end?

                  • I was able to go to the Holkan entry. However, when I clicked on the Spearman link, the game crashed.

                    • The 3.03 patch causes a lot of these Civilopedia crashes apparently.

It's first time I have serius trouble with a Civ game stability (no minor annoying bugs, but show stopper!).

I have a game save that stop in a loop of "waiting for others civilizations" (I hope it's the right english message: I'm playing with italian language selected). The game let me select any screen (F1 to F 10), let me move around the map with the mouse, but stop zooming with mouse wheel command and never move to next turn.

I can send the save file to anyone can help me to address the problem. Thank you in advance.

I also have some graphic glitches here and there (on start screen the words like "loading XML" etc are a line offset over the graphic window white box); slow appearence of request and options when a leader screen pop up to ask to me a commerce; some black screen here and there redesigned after few seconds.

I also got a couple of very bad immediate halt of the system (sytem auto restart or went directly powered off), playing Civ for few hours, but I'm not sure is not a problem of Vista or the notebook itself, that seems to overheat a lot playing games.

I'm using BTS on a new Acer notebook Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista Home Premium, Geforce 8600M GT 256MB dedicated Ram, T7300 Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz and 2 GB DDR2.
                        DirectX 10, Screen resolution 1280 * 800.

I hope my BTS experience can improve a lot with some more patches or workaround, but I'm afraid that Apolyton seems less dedicated to list bugs and solutions that it does some times ago, and without some help I'm lost...

From my own experience and from what I have read, the "waiting for other civs" hang is almost always caused by something having to do with colonies. In my own experience, it's been very shortly (usually immediately) after the creation of the game's second colony.

Some are suggesting going into World Builder and deleting cities (prior to ending the turn in question) and re-trying until the game continues. Knowing that the problem is with a colony (and likely a recent colony) you can narrow down the problem city fairly quickly.

                          • Still there, a bug from Civ4 and Warlords, the bloody stooopid way the sound engine, when something happens simultaneously, plays the sound for all those happenings at the same time. Instead of, you know, just one sound effect.

In effect, when I select my stack 50 or so Frigates, and they make that creak-sail-sound, it breaks my eardrums. Same, when a large number of declarations happen in the same turn, be it from pacts or vassalizations, I get to hear that wonderfull fanfare at volume 11. And I still bleed from my ears thinking about the last all out nuclear war I experienced, with the resulting 20 or so global warmings per turn...
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

                            • I agree, that's something which has bugged me too. If there is a whole lot of peace or vassal treaties breaking out, why not play a slightly longer, more eloquent fanfare rather than the same one three or four times?

As for unit selection, I think that both the sound and the graphics are overdone. We don't need to hear or see all the individual units when making a selection, because usually we'll be looking at the unit bar to see what is in the group. Simplifying the depiction of a battle group worked quite well in GalCiv II and yielded performance improvements in most cases.

Thanks for the hint. I'm afraid that the colony, if any, is not mine, so I can't easily track down the problematic city.

Anyway, I suppose any showstopper bug should be addressed by Firaxis, but I think a patch on the expansion is not a priority today, so I have to wait weeks to end my battle...
