The new preview is intriguing. I liked much of what I read.

Lots of stuff in those screenshots that I hadn't seen. Did I miss the airship, or is that part of a scenario? And I presume the "master blacksmith" and marriage popups are events?
"Clearing a forest has created 20 hammers for Sparta"?
That Steve guy seems to be pretty good."I'm a guy - I take everything seriously except other people's emotions"
"Never play cards with any man named 'Doc'. Never eat at any place called 'Mom's'. And never, ever...sleep with anyone whose troubles are worse than your own." - Nelson Algren

More for Solver' first thread, from the screenshots:
Airship: strength 4, and
Statue of Zeus: requires three monuments.
The events seem pretty cool
Ethiopia is green, the Dutch are orange (of course, they should be ) with a lion crest, and Sitting Bull's "civilization" is brown.
Would F11 be the corporation screen, or would it be an extension of F7 (religion screen)?
I like spies even more, now that I've seen some of what they do.
The Ethiopians defying the taking away of their city was cool, too.
Overall, I'm more psyched now. Only one month to go...

Seems like the log is now in the center of the screen, instead of on the left side of the screen! It also seems to be more trimmed together....!

In the top-left part of the screen is a listing of the generation of science, culture and espionage points!
It's cool to easily see now how much science you get per turn!
The score-list shows an espionage icon for some civs, it also shows the research target for some civs.
Great Engineer founds Mining Inc
List of possible events, abstracted from the screenshots:
- A miracle performed at the city wall in Poverty Point is attracting Jewish pilgrims from far and wide.
- An artist in the frozen tundra near Thebes has perfected a means of crafting beautiful ice sculptures (- We are glad to see that the local culture is thriving, - This is an endeavor worth pursuing. Fund an effort to master this new art form and incorporate it into the local culture [-120 gold, +1 free Great artist in Thebes])
- Corinth has produced a grand master blacksmith who has overseen the expansion and upgrade of the Forge to increase its efficiency (- We applaud the accomplishments of our revered grand master blacksmith [Forge +1 hammer])
- A Carthaginian industrial heiress has received a marriage proposal from one of our prominent business tycoons. Their Jewish wedding will occur this year. (- Send well wishes and a token wedding gift. [?], - Send hearty congratulations and a generous wedding gift. [?], - Announce a national celebration, send an outlandish wedding gift and donate generously to religious organisations in the name of the newlyweds [-68 gold, +3 relation boost with Hannibal]Formerly known as "CyberShy"

AP obsoletes with Mass Media, not Communism.
Siege units can't kill - they do a maximum amount of damage.
Airports give XP to air units.

That change to siege units is pretty big!- Dregor

Now, do the siege units still risk getting destroyed in the bargain (representing expertise/ammunition expenditure)? If so, does their loss affect war weariness (which might still be appropriate)?

I guess so. And I assume that if siege units "win" (do maximum damage), they still get XP.
On second thought, there may be another effect: As the probability to inflict a certain amount of damage is higher than the probability to completely destroy the enemy, siege units should "win" more often."As far as general advice on mod-making: Go slow as far as adding new things to the game until you have the basic game all smoothed out ... Make sure the things you change are really imbalances and not just something that doesn't fit with your particular style of play." - WesW
