  • The problem is that for many civs it might as well not exist. It should give some benefit to everyone.

    Comment

    • I don't think that it has to provide some benefit to everyone. Spiritual is such a strong trait that gaining no value (other than culture and great engineer points) from a single late wonder doesn't weaken it significantly.

If I'm creative, I don't build Stonehenge. If I'm not going for a cultural victory I don't build the Sistine Chapel. If I have very few coastal cities I don't build the Colossus or Great Lighthouse. If I'm not persuing priest specialists I don't build Angkor Wat. And soon, if I'm spiritual I won't build the Christo Redentor.*

There are only a handful of universally useful wonders - The Great Library, the Oracle, the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Zeus. Why must Christo Redentor feature on that list?

*Denying other civs the wonder being the exception to all of these cases.

      • I note that the wikipedia entry for BtS has some additional information not found in this thread - for example, the list of new units:

        New units
        Privateer[62]
        Paratrooper[63]
        Cuirassier[64]
        Anti-tank gun[65]
        High-powered artillery[66]
        Low-powered tactical nuke[67]
        Mobile artillery[68]
        Mobile SAM[69]
        Attack Submarine[70]
        Missile Cruiser[71]
        Stealth Destroyer[72]
        Ninja[73]
        Great Spy (Great Person)

includes some I hadn't seen listed here.

Of course, wikipedia is often wrong or b.s. Still, is there any truth to this information, or is it just wishful thinking/unauthorized disclosure by someone or someones?

edit: I followed some of the links in the footnotes, many of which go to an article dated June 3. So perhaps the information is legitimate.

        • Other buildings include Public Transportation, Industrial Parks, and Levees. There are new modern technologies like Laser, Superconductor, and Stealth. New modern units include the Mobile SAM, Mobile Artillery, Tactical Nuke, Attack Submarine, Missile Cruiser, and Stealth Destroyer.
This all seems like good news. Levee seems like a strange building though. I'm guessing it prevents flood events. 3 new naval units is very good news plus it adds a new generation of ships. Stealth Destroyers haven't even been build yet.

Would love to see the levee allow the reclamation of ocean tiles as land (sort of like the dikes in Holland do?).

I note from the Mantzaris interview here (http://play.tm/story/10816) that BtS "will include some of the code from Warlords - specifically the stuff that impacts the core game functionality. The assets and code from the scenarios in Warlords will not be included."

            So that's one question answered.

            • I'm quite unimpressed by the Cristo Redentor too. Looks useless for spiritual civs. I hope spiritual ai's will realize it and never build it. Looks like a waste if it just does what was advertised.

So the functionalities of Warlords are included, but not the extra, non-core game stuff. Sounds reasonable.

I bet Firaxis has taken that into consideration.

I mean no disrespect, but not being active here I don't know who "Trip" is. Is he someone that would know for certain?

:hmm: This brings up another question, in that how much more of the articles are giving us 'misguided' information. I'm of the opinion interviews with Alex can be taken as is, but hands-on and previews should be taken with a grain of salt.

                              Trip works for Firaxis

and as to other comments, yes sometimes information is reported incorrectly, so thats why I am employed by Apolyton.net, LLC. I actually "travel" to these gaming companies, take tours, play beta's, get a so called free lunch then come back here and agree to write a news item.

The way I put it to them is "Aint no free lunch boyz" either take me to the vending machine or no articles about your game......

Trip is Firaxis' Jon Shafer. Alexman is Firaxis' Alex Mantzaris. They both occasionally post here, so you'll have to keep an eye out for them.
