          1) Build a massive army, and a massive navy to transport that army, and then every turn move my massive army to the next poor city, and then repeat ad nauseum until all 12 remaining enemies are dead.

          2) Set my cities building space parts and just click "Next turn" a few dozen times.

I guess if I stayed with the aggressiveness in the middle I'd have fewer enemies to deal with now, but it still seems like a lot of work. It's always takes less time to build something peaceful than to build a unit and then move it every turn for the rest of the game.
I agree 100%. After a certain point war gets boring. Then you have to manage all those cities you've captured...

For the extreme in the other direction, I like one city challenges. Perfect for a quick game.

            • When I first read the news about the expansion I was excited, but after I took the time to study the details, now I feel lukewarm about it. I'll still buy it- it's Civ, afterall...
I guess maybe I'm just burned out lately- I have gotten to the point where I win pretty consistently on Noble, even with Blake's AI, but somewhere along the way I lost that loving feeling.
I had hoped for some ground-breaking stuff in BtS, but honestly, some of the expansion's features I find less than exciting:
              # Expanded Epic Game: I play on marathon mostly, but I am curious to see what they have done to spice up the late game.
              # New Game Scenarios: I haven't played the ones I have, except the Barbarians.
              # New Civilizations: There are plenty of well-made mods that give you new civs, and they are available for download free.
              # More Civilization Leaders: See above. And modmakers have the courage to include unpopular historical figures like Hitler.
              # New Wonders: Also see above
              # Corporations: Sounds terrific.
              # Espionage: - it's about time
              # Events: also about time, fans have been suggesting this for years
              # Apostolic Palace: meh.
              # Advanced Starts: meh.
              # Enhanced AI: Any better than Blakes?

              • Okay, we get Dutch, Portugese and Babylonian. 7 more unnamed Civs. Unless Native Americans still count as Barbarians, count at least Sioux in. 6 to go.

                Timurid?
                Hittite?
Assyrians? with Yossarian as the leader, of course.

                • The only TBS that I've ever played that was not broken is Master of Orion.
This is becoming seriously off topic, but MOO was broken imo. A great game, but playing the Mrrshans was a challenge when playing Klackons was easy, and abusing the ai tactical ineptitude was way too easy...

On-topic: Anyone has more precise public information about espionage and random events?

I'm fairly certain that in this context epic game refers to non scenario games, not game speed.

Probably the same mod - an early version was included in the Warlords patch. Given the lack of update lately, there could be a more advanced version made available with the expansion.

                          Oh. Yeah...of course.
Now I know I have been playing too much Civ when I make that kind of association. It's like the time I heard someone's cell ringtone playing "Ode to Joy" and I immediately thought "Hey, it's we love the king day!"

Okay, I think it was broken in the right way. The game was still fun if you powergamed. One reason is that it cut down on extreme mirco by gutting your control of your empire (no resource tiles). Oh, and you should know that there was a race that made the Klackon's look tame.

Edit: It was meant to be played in the broken way. Its best idea was treating the AI like just another game mechanic instead of trying to make it something intersting to play against and failing (Civ4 and GalCiv 1&2).

My guess (which is a bit of wishful thinking, because if it was implemented like this, it would be perfect) is this:

                                - AP is going to be either a national wonder, or a building,
                                - it can only be built in the city with the shrine of a given religion,
                                - it functions like a low-power UN, but only for civs with the same state religion.
The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?
