The Millenium Dome Wonder should have a negetive effect on health (- 1 health per city in the civ that built it.)

This represents all the hospitals that could have been built across the nation for the same outlay.

But after the Millenium can other Civ's bungle a raid on the gem source underneath the dome and ruin diplomatic relations for the next 50 turns?

The problem with unique buildings in that it's very hard to balance late-game buildings against early game buildings. For example, say America gets a "drive-in movie theatre" with electricity, and say it gives +2 happiness. (Or perhaps faster population growth. ) That would be a very useful building, but it'd give America a huge disadvantage over any useful unique building that can be built back in the Ancient era, just like America's late UU hurts it, but much worse.

You get the same with UUs. They give you a bit of an edge but aren't game winners (unless you are Rome...)

That's why I think Locutus prediction that they'd replace existing buildings like UU replace existing units is most likely.

The Warlords description at Firaxis states:

"Unique Buildings – Players will now be able to construct buildings unique to each civilization."

So it will be buildings and not wonders. They would have said unique wonder otherwise and if that is what they mean then it is a poor choice of words.

Rome will have a 'lion's den' which enables you to feed Christians to the lions.

Kamikaze - The unit can go into other lands and if it can get to the city (even if there is military units defending the city) it can lower the population by 1.

Arena (you called it Lion's den) - Gives you an option to remove 1 population and gives plus 3 happiness for 10 turns on normal (and a corrosponding amount on other speeds) Removes Christanity from the city.

There I fixed what you said.

Okay, let's be a little more sensitive about the holocaust, shall we?

Yeah, but a UU is good for a while, and then becomes obsolete. On the other hand, if a civ had an improved library or an improved temple as their unique building, they'd have a huge economic advantage starting for the entire game. UU's can be played around, but a long-term economic advantage would be hard to beat.

Germany: JS Bach Cathedral (in a fomer civ). Replaces: Theater. Bonus: Double the usual culture generation of a theater.

                        No controversy.

or anything Teutonic related - a castle giving extra combat bonus to swordsman/knights/macemen built in that city or civ? making a bmw factory to improve roads is a bit far i suppose

                            Damn, I was wrong. Grrr.

I still think national wonders would be cooler, but alas, it doesn't look like it'll happen.

America has a fricken mall as our UB... that's stupid.

Unique national wonders are IMO stupid because the main point of wonders are that there's a race element to it (the current national wonders work because you have to meet specific requirements for them and/or their location has a profound impact on their effect). If you're guaranted to always get it, it's just tedious micro-management and you might as well give the effect through a leader trait.

How is a mall stupid? It's a typically American concept that's an important part of everyday life in the US. And what would you rather see instead?
