What in the WORLD have you done with Yin? I'm serious! I'm this close to calling the authorities!
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I think he means "you" as in "them"() and he's probably talking of the born again optimism we're experiencing from yin's side...

The chemicals in a Civ 4 box can cause brain damage, which seems to have impared yin's arrogance and pessimism glands.

For me, Civ 1 was great fun, and Civ 2 was much less so. Perhaps the sequel resembles the original too much.

Of course, Redmond Simonsen's unofficial mod made Civ 1 a lot more fun.

Civ 1 was very good indeed, I still play it

Actually, I got civ4 on nov.4th and have spent at least twice as long playing civ1 efter that date

I have Civ II, III and IV... great games, and CIV is the best of them!
But... It's frustrating... I never played Civ I.
I would love to find a copy of it!

                  Google, maybe.

:sigh: I warned Yin too, but he insisted on doing the 'honourable' thing. I was going to argue that the whole "I'll eat my hat thing" was only ever supposed to be a metaphor but he seemed determined to see it through.

Well, that's not true. there's a civ1 patch. There are about 2 or 3 civ1 versions I think. Of course it wasn't possible to distribute it over the internet though.
There were (at least) 5 versions actually for DOS, two for Windows.

You can still get version 5 from the Apolyton Civ I page:

When people use complaints like 'It's 2005*, why won't the game just run?' they seem to forget the fun of having to create custom boot disks (which could take ages to figure out the correct settings for), having to configure the OS for the game as well, only being able to have one or two games installed at once anyway, setting IRQs and hardware configurations and ending up with all the sound coming from the PC speaker regardless. (Beep indeed, Mr. Nimoy)

Plus, as previously mentioned, patches were incredibly difficult to get hold of if you even knew they existed.

Meh. If I wanted it to just run, I'd use a console and forfeit all customisability. Plus I'd have to play it in the living room to have a decent sized (but lo-res) screen.

                          *Change as appropriate

After the whole SMAC thing, if you were to tell me that Yin would be as optimistic as me on a Civ4, I'd call you crazy and call the insane assylum to take you away .

                              * The "Auto" feature can no longer be used to circumvent the 50% penalty for production changes (sorry).
                              * Some problems with user-defined techs (where it was not recognizing that user-defined techs had been discovered) have been corrected.
                              * Problem where users received a black box or black screen when going to the Civilopedia (or when a new advance discovered) has been corrected.
                              * The "Winning" animation is no longer displayed when another civilization wins the space race (!)
                              * OOPS! Patch 1.04 broke the AI. This fixes it. Sorry!

I got bored copying and pasting after these, there were much more

                              That´s just hilarious.

*Unfortunately racoons ate our 5 1/4" master floppys, so patch 1.06 won´t be released. Sorry.

I'm playing Babylon, just started, my first Civ I game. Loving it! Just for fun, I re-installed Civ II. I'm Rome. Great game, great game...
Playing Babs also in Civ III (amazing UU)... Babylon should be in the expansion.
And setting up Roosevelt, huge map, continents, epic. I'm a happy man.
