    Wow, that works! Thanks!

    • Played it last nite with the new patch. FYI, I didn't really have problems with the game before (few random desktop crashes) and Harks patch actually made the game less stable over time. I didn't take the time to troubleshoot Hark's beyond a few changes in vid_mem_usage and insane mode settings, though.

However, last nite, the game with the new patch crashed the 3rd time I did a quick save. I noticed that it now asks if you want to overwrite the file (it never did before). I'm kind of bummed, since I hate pulling up the menu every time and random crashes have gotten me into the habit of quick saving every other turn - especially late game during a war.

I guess I could just set the auto save to every 2 turns...

      • I can't get rid of the admin password. It keeps coming back. Anyone know how? Or what exactly to delete in the same game file?

At the same time, set MaxAutoSaves (in Civilization4.ini) to 20 or more instead of 5. Just in case!

          • After installing the new patch I noticed a few things...

            1. As soon as I found my first city my civ upkeep cost becomes 2 gold per turn so I must immediately change my science/gold ratio from 100/0 to 80/20. I swear there was no initial upkeep cost before this patch. Is this a bug? I did not see anything about it in the patch description.

UPDATE: When playing an "organized" civ there is no initial upkeep, while non-organized civs get an upkeep of 2 gold. I suppose this makes sense, although I still don't remember any initial upkeep for any civs before this patch.

            2. When I use the regenerate map feature in the world builder, the year does not reset to 4000 BC.

            3. The graphics for the flood plains have changed(not sure why) and at least on my computer there is a bit of a graphical bug. There are clearly visible vertical and horizontal lines that criss-cross the flood plain tiles.

            • Still getting late game CTD's when scrolling, even on standard maps now. This game gets more annoying with each patch. It's fun to play but having to reboot after each CTD is pissing me off.

              • Wonderful patch. Everything I've seen so far has been doupleplusgood, except...

Almost all the talking heads in the diplomacy screens have their eyes about 10 degrees off true resulting in what looks like drunken world leaders with caked-on mascara.

                Anyone else seeing this?

Ok will the person, who has hacked into Yin's account and is trying to pass themself of as Yin26 please stop.

I miss the old Yin, a perfect example of a grognard. This warm and fuzzy guy saying nice things about Firaxis is just too much like a Hallmark card.

                      • from performance point of view, patch 1.52 seems to have thrown me back to speeds slower than 1.09. even on 4000BC games scrolling is very slow and memory usage is up to 300MB immediately.

any idea what could be causing it? i've got plenty of RAM (1.5GB) and the rest of the hardware should suffice to easily run the minimal settings (low graphics, etc).

                        ideas?

Now, here's the tricky part. I'm running an Athlon64 3400+ with 1GB RAM, GeForce FX 5950 w/ 256MB RAM, Win XP Pro... No other programs running except Konfabulator and one single IE window open (with apolyton on it, of course!). Graphics settings: 1280x1024x32, high.

Was playing as English, just discovered steam power in 1860ish, huge terra map, low sea level, etc.

I don't see how I could have run out of video memory with that 256MB... This is not a low end system....

I have had problems with terra maps before, especially huge terra, though never -this- problem. Usually it's just a CTD problem that XP recovers gracefully from, and has a bit of warning before it goes (like blacking out regions when I click the minimap to a distant location, or slow load times). Mostly I have problems like this when I try to run that 18 civs earth map LOL, but that's more because the AI is crying under the weight of 18 civs, not graphics! I don't get it...

(oh, and the worst part is that when it crashed me to desktop, it left me in 16 COLOR mode...yes, that's 4 bit color...640x480)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that my drivers are completely up to date as of early december. *shrugs*
I had that problem too with this new patch. Huge terra world, 18 civs, 1280x1024, high graphics. The problem got solved by changing graphics to "medium". Hope it helps!

                          • I have a BIG problem with the new patch:

When I use a stack to attack a city, it only attacks with the first unit. If I want to use the other units in the stack I have to remove the unit that has already attacked.

Onve the defender is down to one unit, all units that hadn't attacked will move into the city with the unit that won the battle.

                            Makes attacking very tedious.

Now to go see if I changed something and didn't realize it.

EDIT: Did it have the Stack Attack option before this patch? If they did then it got turned off when I upgraded.

                            ACK!

                            • Game seems to be less stable and I am noticing a large increase in out of sync errors occuring in MP.
