No, my gameplay is fine, I am pretty sure it is just the sounds skipping and only in wonder movies.

I changed my audio settings from "Stereo" to "Use System Config" and it fixed my wonder movie skipping.

I am! My two problems are skipping sound in movies and generally laggy play. I've tried a host of things:

            - Lowered in-game graphics settings
            - Updated video card drivers (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)
            - Disabled sound hardware acceleration
            - Moved a file found to be missing in a log
            - Modified the INI file based on recommendations here

Nothing has helped. It's not bad enough that I can't play, but I expect an improvement before all is said and done.

This is happening to me too but with a strange twist. I first started playing the game with audio set to stereo as this was the default. Wonder movies played fine (Only saw a few though). Thought I'd check if EAX made a difference so I checked it out. Wonder movies started to skip then so I changed it back to stereo and the movies still skip. Tried system config too, same problem. I have a sound blaster audigy 2 zs. Really strange they worked at first but won't now. By the way, I fully exited the game after changing the setting each time.

Followup : I saved my game on a huge/epic pace game right before my Great Lighthouse was built so I could readily test the sound settings. On a guess, I started a new game on standard/quick game and the stuttering is gone. Audio set to stereo but it would skip when I loaded up my save game before. Maybe you have to start the game over or there is a glitch associated with map size and/or game pace.

Yepp. Done everything possible to sort it but nothing helps. Its unplayable atm for me. And I am WELL above the recommended speccs.

                  1Gb 533Mhz DDR2
                  Nvidia FX5950 PCI-E

Lags from the starts and gets worse and worse. Also found out the game is leaking memory like crazy. Going to return the game if this isn´t fixed. Its that unplayable

Bad news, the game I started over was fine until I got to the Oracle Wonder... now the skipping is back.

Yes, same with me, very annoying, almost unplayable (well it would be for anyone but me).

Another victim of skipping sound in movies here.

                        I have a Sound Blaster Live 5.1, a GeForce MX/MX400
all other requirements met or exceeded, all drivers the latest and greatest.

The rest of the game runs perfectly. I've tried every combination of different audio settings in the game and different display resolutions. All the Direct X stuff appears to be error free. Still get the skipping.

Just trying to bump this so we get a solution from Firaxis soon. Otherwise, I will disable the movies (somebody posted here or at civfanatics' forum that you can disable movies by editing the config file). Or I'll just turn the sound down during the movies.

I am getting disillusioned to the fact that the game will be "playable" for me. It might take weeks or months to get EVERYBODY up and running.

                              Just an update...

I tried changing the sound settings to "Stereo" with no luck. Wonder movies' sound still skips.

Another new development as well that I noticed (which has been touched upon with this thread) is that the game seems to be possibly leaking memory.

I can load a saved game, with excellent game response, then over a course of an hour or so, the game slows down and lags horribly. Maybe it's intentional, you know, so we all don't spend too much time playing.

As for me, I'm not giving up. The game is still playable and I'm sure 2K Games will have a patch out within sometime...

I also am getting the skipping. I noticed it gets worse as I increase the resolution. I have not tried the "Stereo" setting yet.
