I think he meant in-game renaming, like you can do with units in Civ3 (Conquests). I wouldn't consider that modding.
EDIT: And no, we can't do that, either.
Exactly. That was what I meant: In-game.
I just think it would be natural for the world to raise godly statues with my facial features...
Well, the religions featured are meant to stand for something more than the local god/king worship of more primitive societies. Such religions, as they were, weren't apt to spread beyond the small areas where they originated,

Another question: Is it possible to convert a holy city?
I'd think so. It did happen IRL.
Another question: Can one, without modding, change the name of one's religion?
Example: change Buddhism to Freddism.
That would be cool, but I doubt it's in. I'd think you'll have to mod it in.

Without having any first hand information about it, based on tradition from its predecessors I'd say no. You can customize your civ choice like name of the civilization, leader name etc., but for anything above that, like changing names of governments (or civics), difficulty levels, or religions you'd have to use the editor - hence you'd have to mod.
Will all AI players of a certain religion get mad when you attack and occupy the holy city of that certain religion?
Are human players required to copy this behavior as well?

Now that's a big call from one so pro-CTP2.
I really did not have a 'problem' with civ3. In fact, I probably played as much civ3 as I played CTP2 over the past 2 years. I just felt that 'modded' CTP2 got some unfair knocks whenever compared with civ3.
My sense of justice was offended
Most of my gripes with civ3 (especially in regards to unit management) are addressed in civ4. I almost wet myself when I heard Solver confirm the unit grouping features. That feature kills about 90% of the tedium that was in civ3. It will make the worker and combat system as streamlined as PW and stacked combat. The new combat system, although not stacked as I would have liked, provides good gameplay elements and gameplay choices. And I suspect that some Modder will be creative enough to make a stacked combat format...
No infinite rails...multiple tile improvement types...civics...a dynamic religion system...(BTW, all of these features are in CTP in some form - even the government setup of CTP is closer to civ4 civics than the civ1-civ3 system was)
I have seen the future, and it's Civ4. Civ4 appears to be a melding of the good features of many games. That's all I was looking for.
I'm still have some questions, but lets just say that I am a lot more excited about civ4 than I was about civ3 when it was on the verge of release.
And imo, Solver is the perfect person to review civ4. His article about CTP/civ3 is one of the best pieces of unbiased game comparisons I have ever read.

So you actually think that article is unbiased ?
