Good performane by Tim Curry in that movie. Not as good as his performance in Rocky Horror, but then again nothing is.

All good films should have the protagonist faced with death IMO... It always makes an incredible adventure. Unless you suck royally at writing stories.
EDIT: I'll throw in Seven Samurai to the list, as well as Ikiru, because I KNEW I was missing another death movie.
:-p

Which one, the original, or the one with John-boy Walton?Originally posted by Calc II

ACK!
"Foof." - Sasquatch.

Both are good. The original, however, is quite extraordinary.

Snatch
Plank: Ah! They shot me!
Dog: Well, shoot em back!
(The sig came from when barry the baptist walked out of the bar meaning to murmur "f-cking northern monkeys" but no matter how many times I watch it, its so clearly said "nova". Nova makes no sense and Lenny says later about how he hates "f--king southern fairies". Maybe a UK resident who watched the movie can clarify this for me?
My nickname for awhile was "Nova Monk", while I had a bald head.)

OK some people say they read these.
I'll give you the movies I own, and some other good ones.
The Abyss: The real James Cameron water adventure
Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure: silly comedy buy not like most others
Dumb And Dumber: really really silly comedy
Gladiator: not sure why I own this, I didn't like it that much. Still a decent flick though
Heat: Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino 'nuff said
Clint Eastwood in the Man with no name series (this is actually 3 movies- spagheti westerns made in the 60's)
Predator: Silly action movie. I like it for some reason. I'd like a little *****
Pulp Fiction: the greatest movie ever!!!!'nuff said
Seven: great thriller.
Spaceballs: another silly comedy. Star Wars spoof. I see your swartz is as big as mine.
The Stand: this was actually a tv miniseries, But I liked the book so I got the miniseries. Not the best quality, but not bad for tv.
Terminator 1 and 2. The greatest action flicks ever made. And they have some sci-fi elements in them
Waynes World. Great flick from one of SNL's better skits.
Unforgiven. Clint Eastwood's greatest western movie.
Die Hard movies (there are 3 of them). Great action movies if you like Bruce Willis
Natural Born Killers: written by Quentin Tarantino I believe. Directed by Oliver Stone. And it has Woody in it
Platoon. Olive Stone's best Vietnam flick.
Other movies which I should have or have VHS copies of from cable:
12 Monkeys. The best sci-fi flick ever!! I'm a Bruce Willis fan you can tell.
Born on the Fourth of July: another Oliver Stone vietnam flick. But it deals with the aftermath of the war. Overdramatic, but still great.
Signs. Just came out last year. Took a lot of heat because nothing happens. And I admit the aliens have a pretty stupid weakness (they would be hurting in the city that Frasier does his radio show). But M. Night Shmalyn (sp?) is great at creating suspense with no action.
The Sixth Sense- the first of his movies that I know of. Another suspense flick.
Unbreakable- yet another M. Night flick. Not as good as the others. Many don't like this one, but I do.
Wall Street- Oliver Stone yet again. And Michael Douglis/Charlie Sheen
Falling Down- Michael Douglous. Not that great, but for some reason I like it.
Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer. Cheesy flicks of the sword and sorcery type
Mad Max/Road Warrior/Beyond Thunderdome: mad max series. Low budget Australian action movies set in a strange future.
American Beauty- Kevin Spacey is good in this
The Big Kahuna- not that great. Based off a play. But I like Kevin Spacey. Good message if you get it.
Swimming with the sharks- the movie that got me liking Kevin Spacey.
Casino- decent mobster flick
The Godfather- 'nuff said
Goodfellas- another mobster flick
Scarface- yet another
Apocalypse Now- we all know about this one
Full Metal Jacket- excellent vietnam flick
The Shining- great horror movie (1980 version)
Back to the Future series
Fast times at ridgemont high
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
can't think of anymore right now. But there are at least 50 or 100 great movies out there.

But not all of them.. Personally, I recommend 2 and 6. Other people often recommend 4, but while that one is ok, it's not very star-treky, and there are plenty of other family movies that are better, IMHO.Originally posted by Kramerman star trek movies
Also, some more good movies:
The Breakfast Club
Stand By Me
Laura (The 1940's version)
Whatever happened to Baby Jane?
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (although it goes a little over the top)
Horror of Dracula
Curse of Frankenstein
The Mummy (either the 1930's version, or the 1950's version)
The Devil Rides Out
The Thing From Another World (the Original)
Dogma
Deterrence
Thirteen Days
Beauty and the Beast
The Great Mouse Detective
101 Dalmations
Die Hard With a Vengeance

Well, I know I'm gunna try to see a few mentioned here.Originally posted by Dissident
