HC, it really depends on what you want to do. I wouldn't look at it as 'trying to get the most bang for your buck', but rather, 'what is it that I want to do?' A ****ty holiday is worse than none at all.

Europe to Australia isn't that short range You kind of have to pick one hemisphere or another.

Absolutely, sorry I thought you meant you would only visit one country.

Even so, there are multiple places I'd like to see, and I'd like to get a sense of what would be most interesting from people who have been to or live in those places.

What kind of stuff do you like? A friend of mine recently returned from a trip to New Zealand. He's a big LOTR fan, so he had a great time. Another friend is a total perv and had a blast in Japan. And a third is a raving lunatic with a history of body mutilation, so he felt right at home in South Korea.

I'd say all of those countries would be less expensive than Europe (on average) except Japan.

So, I can see you're playing the waiting game on my offer of the beach house, and this is your way of prodding negotiations forwards.

OK, special deal, just for you since you're on Apolyton: $20,000 for the duration and I'll fix the insect screens and install a flat screen TV. Sound good? That'll leave you $10K for surfboard and car hire, food, etc.

                        • Hint, it always better if you can understand the local language to not let people know that so they think that you have no clue when they're making fun of you. And when you finally disclose that you did understand they'll feel bad about it. Unless they're French, of course.

                            • And if you can't speak the local language, talk English loudly and slowly, repeating yourself until they understand you. Throw in some over the top hand gestures too.

"In" rather than "Does" works better maybe?
