Meh, they just have a truckload of awards. IGN baby

GameSpot's platform specific awards are just the best game for each platform, that's it. Special awards and genre awards are mixed across all platforms.

IGN also has platform specific awards. And then reader's choice awards.

Why does no one else on this ****ing site know anything?

Which is exactly the difference from GameSpot. IGN's awards for each genre are done separately for platforms. GameSpot's aren't. GameSpot has its "Best Shooter" award for games of all platforms, IGN has a separate best shooter award for each platform.

Indeed. Asher clearly somehow misunderstood there and should apologise. I won't hold my breath though.

In previous years I have found Gamespot's awards closer to my views. But I was looking through some of the shortlist choices just now and it they seem pretty inconsistent to me.

My problem with mixing platforms isn't really that GameSpot doesn't reflect my views. While I do find that IGN reflects my views better, my problem with the mixed-platform approach is that few games from each platform are represented, in the end. GameSpot's Best Action Game award for this year is a perfect example. Five nominees, two representing the PS3, one for Nintendo DS, Xbox and Wii each. Which means no intra-platform competition, they've basically already selected their best action game from each platform in the lineup.

I would also guess that this means the average reader is less familiar with their nominees. I am not suggesting that most people play on one platform, but I believe that few play on more than two. When nominees for an award represent 4 platforms, chances are most readers wouldn't be familiar with all the nominees.

No, both have a truckload of awards. No misunderstanding here except from you.

Though your attempt to pretend the opposite is happening would be adorable if not so obvious.
