I've heard the RB2 is more reliable and, most importantly, quieter.

I've not had any issues with mine, but RB1-owning friends comment how they feel sturdier and are definitely quieter.
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

definitely quieter and better "bounce back" feel. they are an improvement, and if you have neither -- I'd go with the RB2 set.

AFAICT the bubble issue is nearly universal, but mostly cosmetic -- the drum still works.

the kick pedal issue is the big one. it's better, but if you're trying expert drums with all the rapid bass notes, you're going to get overly exuberant sometimes and the pedal will eventually break. In my experience, you really can't do some of the songs with the "heel down" technique (which is easier on the pedal) -- you really need to get some leg bounce going, which results in a pretty serious pounding to the pedal.

I forgot the battery issue -- the RB2 set is wireless and the battery compartment is underneath -- if you're whacking away you can jar the batteries loose. This can be remedied by jamming some folded up paper in the compartment to make it tighter.

As far as the Ion pedal goes -- I think I got unlucky there, as I haven't seen any other complaints online. The rest of the kit is really nice -- very sturdy and even quieter than the RB2 drums. It's really big though and not easily storable.

I've not had the red bubble issue, nor the battery-knocked-loose issue...

Which pad is the red one? My friend who has the game has a bubble on the far left pad. However, I don't play the drums so I haven't really paid attention to which is what color.

Maybe you're just a nice dainty drummer who lightly taps the kit. I admit it -- I smack the living *&^% out that sucker. This has been suggested as the root of the bubble and battery issues. But hey, if I'm going to play pretend rock star -- I'm going to go all out.

that's the one. I don't know why it's that one in particular that gets it and the rest don't -- the drums have different pitches when you strike them, so they must be constructed slightly differently but I'm not aware what the specific issue is.

When it happens, intially it's just like the rubber stretches out and if you push on it a little it shrinks back to shape. Eventually, it loses its ability to contract.

Bah, my response got lost in the server problems.

Anyway... played RB2 last night, finally understand it, nice stress reliever after work, etc. Probably will get it (RB2 > GHWT > RB from what I'm reading, for kit, and just get all three over time).

Have wii, don't have X360 or PS3. Is there any compelling reason to not get the Wii edition? It's not impossible that we will get an X360 eventually, but rather not spend FOUR hundred dollars getting the game.

The Wii version looks worse and not sure about the position as regards DLC (quite important for RB) but last time I checked there was no mechanism on the Wii.

                  Anyway, get a 360.

                    Should also have said: multiplayer.

                    • MP: not interested at all, actually; I am not the sort of person who would want to play RB with random people across the globe. Friends, family, or by myself as a stress reliever.

DLC, though, is a good question... from what I've seen Harmonix has promised to offer DLC for the Wii but it's not clear if they actually have done so yet.

                      • It seems many people have gone with Rock band over GH - world tour? Has anyone got GH - world tour? I ask as it will probably be the one i get as i'm interested in the whole record your one tracks thing. How does that work?

They have. So far the selection is more limited but you can indeed buy tracks for RB2. It seems to depend on your SD save slot though.

                          • Hmmmmm... okay, you all convinced me. 360 it is. Thank you, Uncle Sam, for ensuring I saved enough money in an interest-free savings account in order to buy a 360 and RB2.

                            • If you do get an XBox 360, you're in for a treat. Some really great games on there. Two that you should try - Bioshock and Fallout3.
