On the night before the match a boat load of Roustabouts arrived who were gathered up from the other local rigs. The official reason for leaving the other rigs unmanned (the oil extraction process itself is automated, but require near constant maintenance) was to allow the overworked but well paid workers some much needed time off. The unofficial reason was far less ethical. The patron of the event also happened to be the proprietor of all the surrounding wells, and he paid his workers in company credits which could be exchanged for money only when their tour was up. Since they had no cash the Roustabouts had to place bets through the official bookies, thus the company would win all the lost bets. Furthermore, every winning bet(not to be collected until they could cash in on the mainland) would be taxed 15%. In this way the owner hoped to pay for the lavish event and make a hefty profit to boot.

The Roustabouts had to squeeze into every nook and cranny they could find in order to sleep the rest of the night away. The normal sleeping quarters, large enough to fit four rig crews comfortably, was gerrymandered between the oil barons. A few of the daring slept on the derrick itself, which would also serve as their stands tomorrow since the workers were forbidden to enter the helipad tent.
