Well, its another Dogmeat, I'd wager, since Fallout 2 is like 50 or so years after Fallout 1 (well, it may not be 50, but it is some time afterwards).
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Google the "Cafe of Broken Dreams". This is a humorous easter egg in FO2 where you get to see loads of people from FO1 as they were in that time frame. Dogmeat is there and even talks to you, and one of the things he tells you is that there's a way to get him through the Mutant Base alive.

Tandi is there too which is a bit confusing as she's her earlier teenage self, but she's also elsewhere as a very old woman.

That's a great piece of artwork - very bleak!
That would so break my heart to have Dogmeat tell me he could have survived, especially if I hadn't managed it in Fallout1!
So thanks for the headsup - it might just have saved me drowning my sorrows in a bottle of scotch!!

@Imran, yes I think Fallout2 is set 80 years later.

        @Dr.Spike, only if yours does...............first

Fallout3 has big Mad Max type boots to fill!

Loving the game so far. To me the game is more of an RPG/Adventure and that might be what makes this game so good, people underestimate/underrate how impactful adventure games can be.

Btw, Iguana on a Stick? It originated from Fallout? I'm pretty sure I found something similar to that in other games, can't remember which.

Also, it's a bit wierd that I can just take whatever I want and no one bothers to stop me, is it a bug?

No, it's a staple of almost all RPGs from that era (and lots beyond too!). It doesn't matter if you are a rich lawful good knight, you can steal the life savings of a peasant village and no one cares.

Thanks for the tip, I am constantly worried about walking out the door without paying and end up with a shotgun bullet in my back

There's at least one place in Fallout (don't remember if it was Fallout 1 or 2) where the people in the house shoots you if you even try to take their stuff. But it wont be just a simple shotgun
This space is empty... or is it?

Sometimes in Fallout 1, if you try to rifle the shelves in an occupied dwelling, you'll get caught and warned. (If I remember correctly, it's dependent on your stealth skill.) If you get caught again, they become hostile and combat ensues.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

Heck, this is one game where saving often counts.

I keep getting myself killed just saying the wrong things!

Think of it as free training for not saying silly things in real life.

I realised I don't know much about the game, this is one hell of a deep game, and it was made so long ago, where have standards gone!?
So I downloaded the manual, best manual I have ever read

I just learned how to use/drop an item, and target specific areas of an opponent. Sigh, if I had known this earlier! I am particularly interested in how to increase my AP, because I only seem to be able to fire once then I have no choice but to run!

One answer = big graphic budgets. Poor Fallout 3!!

Oh, if you have checked out the latest screenshots, you may get some glimmer of hope for the depthness of Fallout 3.

I myself am hugely skeptical for Fallout 3; so far, game developers remaking other people's games, doesn't do well.

I'm starting to think I'm not gonna be able to finish Fallout 1 and 2 before Fallout 3 is released..

I bolded the part of the 3rd person view, for those who want the isometric view (I do).
...very few games are isometric any more
