I'd rank it a 9.5 but I love FPS combat. The graphics seem amazing compared to Oblivion, even all the terrain/rocks/etc just look damn good to me. I don't know if it's the setting or what but I find wandering around the wasteland much more enjoyable than Oblivion. I used to use a hunting rifle most of the time(can always get a spare off mutants) but now that I'm almost level 20 it seems tougher baddies are usually around, so I often end up using energy weapons. Combat shotgun is powerful up close so I use that a lot too. I am just having a lot of fun exploring and fighting even if it's not that challenging(I already have most good items).

Well, I finally managed to have a go at the game. 3 hours in so far and am totally immersed. I absolutely thrive on games like this. Loving it so far. Could not let go of the mouse, eyes glued. For now, I rate it a 9.5/10. I expect that number to drop, but I hope not.

I have done quite a lot of speed-walking. Instead of walking "normally" from point A to point B i use the global map to travel (so I have missed quite a lot of wasteland because of that)
* Well, of areas where I have spent some time running around. I don't count the areas where I just saw it once, then never came backThis space is empty... or is it?

One thing to note is that the VATS system on the console can be a bit of a pain getting the body target you want. You have to cycle through all the body parts and sometimes the enemy's posture is such that their head may be really close to their left arm and the game has difficulty selecting the location you want.
This problem is not present on PCs. In fact much of the combat is a lot easier on PCs because mouse aiming is far superior to the console controller, just as it was in Bioshock."lol internet" ~ AAHZ

I don't find VATS very useful. It's only good to conserve ammo vs weaker enemies who die in one headshot, etc. Versus tough enemies or a large number it can serve for an opening salvo but then it's useless.Eschewing obfuscation and transcending conformity since 1982. Embrace the flux.

Part of this is my playstyle, but I tend to sneak a lot. If I can sneak close to an enemy I'll use VATS for a sneak attack headshot. When in normal combat I tend to hide behind a corner, wait until the enemy rounds the corner, then go into VATS for a headshot. With a good weapon skill and a high damage weapon you can usually kill an enemy with one or two shots/bursts.Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

Thanks for advice on patience
I missed a lot first go round, so went back to where I had a save coming out of Vault
I went down to the cellar/basement of school, and now am just coming out of the town (I think Silverdale school and town of silverdale
Anyhoo, do have a question, I remember first go around, I ran into a guy like a travelling dealer, was he the person I sell extra stuff to?
Thanks all
Sweet game
A bit hard on my fused wrist, as have not built up stamina for useage, plus its permant angle is just off straight foreward.
I tried my 360 controller but like the PC Keyboard better
Looking forward to further advancement

It's Springvale, I think
Don't worry too much about missing stuff. The game is effing huge, you won't even be able to see everything there is with a single character.
You can sell extra stuff to whomever you want to sell it. Yeah, sometimes you meet those travelling merchants, they're always nice. There are some random scavengers but there are a few trade caravans that actually follow specific paths through the Wastes and stop by the major cities every once in a while. Definitely take advantage of those if you happen to meet them.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I have finally finished the game. The ending is very redolent of the type that you get for Fallout 1 and 2.
I've done the game as a Good person. I think I'm done. I'll leave the Evil playthrough for my friend Bing, who apparently has still not yet gotten over his Anton Chigurh obsession and wants to do the game as a character who looks and behaves like him."lol internet" ~ AAHZ

Respectfully, go play for another couple of days first Not that it's not awesome but the flaws that the game has don't really become visible until you've invested some time into it.Solver, WePlayCiv Co-Administrator

I just got the game as I was in China for the last month, seems okay so far, but I'm only a few hours in and have only seen the vault and most of Megatron.
Still trying to decide whether to blow it up or not. I did rat out the guy in the bar and that did not end as I expected. We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.
