    Bus Driver is a masterpiece.

If you say Crysis I'm going to kill you. Crysis is one of the problems with PC gaming, it requires astronomical specs to play...this is why consoles are so appealing.
Heres a game. Tell me how long do you think it will be before I have a PC with the specs to play Crysis?

        • At the current rate about 15 years. Even a triple SLI system of the latest $600 Nvidia graphics card with an 8-core CPU chugs in framerate in Crysis on max settings.

If that's true (and it might be, but we can't really know without trying) why do people even make games like that? Perhaps they're compensating for something.

              • As we've been discussing Crysis I came across this on gamasutra:

The article is kind of what you hear from many PC devs(even Introversion had issues with pirated games), but the comments at the end of it are what's interesting.

My gut feeling is that out of a general swathe of PC gamers(pick any 100, any 1000 etc) you will find an easy 50% who would pirate a game(for whatever reason: money/avoid copy-protection/no demo available etc). The figures of 1-20 given in the article suggest a much higher rate mind you.

I guess we are getting too used to having 'free' stuff on-line? could that create a culture of pirating?

It's a shame as it's what I suspect has moved devs in the direction of the consoles and the problems associated with that.

At this time I can really sympathise with any studio that wants to create a AAA pc title - the risks are massive and unless your game is real gold(and lets be honest not many are these days) you are more likely to crash and burn. Is it all down to WoW and The Sims now?

                I hope not

                • There's also RTS and TBS, though the consoles are making inroads there too.

Well, having more than dualcore actually lowers your performance, so that's not really much of a surprise

About those topgames: you probably haven't heard of them as you're not really a PC gamer, and most of them don't sell 10 billion copies,... but that's not the issue. They're just good games.

Try Overlord by triumph studios for example. Superb game, very original gameplay, good reviews etc etc, but the developer just doesn't have the big bucks at its disposal to mass-advertise the game like M$ does with Halo.

PS: Halo 1 is the suck. Never played such a boring game, with repetitive leveldesign, textures, gameplay etc

                        That's bull****.

Also, Overlord sold much more on the 360 than the PC.

                        • Hmm, didn't know it was released on console too. That the game sold more on xbox doesn't matter though.

                          • It's on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The reason it's on consoles is PC game sales can't sustain most titles.

for sure, especially not when your product is often poor value(for x number of reasons), and in those cases it's much easier on PC to simple find it for free - why pay for something you will have forgotten about in 2-3months time? - you can't do that on a console
