edit: also, decline in the gaming market probably won't do much to condense the number of low-end offerings (i.e. integrated graphics), which IIRC constitute a large majority of sales. In fact, the higher-end market collapsing would force game makers to target those more and more.
But ME doesnt run on IG anyway, does it? By the time there IS IG that will run it, most of these issues will be worked out, maybe?

As someone looking at discrete cards, I find the variety very confusing. Im not sure why having only half the discrete offerings would make me more inclined to keep my IG. I dont think the additional offerings are really marginally really making the experience better vs IG - I think they exist mainly because of the competition between the two vid card manufacturers. When there are fixed cost elements borne elsewhere in the market (as in this case) the additional competition can lead to excess costs. the solution of course is not reducing the number of manufacturers, but the establishment of common standards. Presumably PCGA will address this.

If we're talking about what future games will have to deal with (and whether it'll be easier or more difficult), ME isn't relevent.

      • Finally installed ME. Crashed on first run, so converted it to windowed mode. Two crashes since in about an hour of play, one in the equipment screen (that one was fun, apparently it let me exit the screen but didn't reset the video, so I was moving and shooting but still saw the equipment screen. Odd.)

Might try lowering settings to see if that helps the crashes. Load time is VERY long (~2 minutes to get to the main menu), and this is on a fairly fast system...

        • Make that three, with another one of the video updating stopping but the game continuing (on a transition this time). Not even through the first level...

          • That's weird. ME also crashed for me on the first run (hmmm) but hasn't crashed since, and the load to main menu is quite fast.

            • It seems to have helped that I turned down textures from 'ultra high' to 'high', at least I played for nearly an hour without a crash.

Doesn't help the load to main menu, though.

                • I had a lot of problems with Command and conquer 3 last year on my laptop and assumed in was because it was a laptop card. Recently a friend tells me that he still cannot get it to run reliably on his gaming desktop. PC gaming is getting pretty bad. At least Blizzard releases good games. By good, I mean they don't crash. Warcraft 3 and WoW could not be gayer if Arthas the Lightbringer had a pink thong and lost it in his pants when you clicked on him a lot.

It's been out for a week or more in the states. Mine came on monday...

Though i'm annoyed at Direct2Drive. I bought a DVD version because D2D didn't indicate they were carrying it, and then D2D suddenly shows that they are carrying it on Weds. last week... :morons:

                    • I refuse to use Direct 2 Drive because I do not support any companies with numbers 4 words.

You'd be surprised There's actually no working warez version as of yet, if you must know

Im presuming graphically intensive new games will never run on IG at release, barring some major breakthrough in IG (which would be VERY good for PC gaming relative to consoles) . And that graphically intensive new games are what we are talking about.

A cursory search at a certain website reveals that this is false.

I'm presuming graphically intensive new games will start being a lot less graphically intensive relative to the state of the art.
