It may be a discussion forum, but that doesn't mean all things can and should be discussed.

There is such a thing as a signal to noise ratio, and good sites pay close attention to that.

Should we discuss my theory on why the Playstation 3 is bombing is directly related to Ken Kutaragi's anal fixation and obsession with cucumbers? Or should we stay in the realm of reality.

Maybe the real reason the Wii isn't being produced en masse is because they use uranium in the chip, and if they produce too much of them it draws suspicion.

So are you saying that anyone who doesn't believe that Nintendo was holding back Wii's for PR reasons is in the same category as someone who holds the above beliefs?

No, as long as they make reasonable arguments they're not. I don't see UnOrthOdOx as being in the same category, for instance.

How would we class the argument that a seller can only be engaging in market segmentation if they have multiple SKU's?

This is disingenuous - you used the post I quoted to address a point that had been raised on the current topic of discussion (albeit rather obliquely), not some random diversion.

The argument was there is no market segmentation in the Wii market. Which is unabashedly true. I don't even know where to begin to explain the fundamentals to you.

There is NO reasonable way anyone can make the argument that limiting supply of the consoles is going to segment the market. Both groups in your example are equally affected by shortages. It's a retarded argument, quite simply.

I see you left out the last example which is certainly on topic, and equally silly as LOTM's assertion that by limiting supply of the console, Nintendo is segmenting the market intentionally.

Once again, how do categorize the argument that market segmentation only exists where multiple SKUs exist? A reasonable one? Pulled out of the air? Signal, or noise?

Assume, with me, that they didnt have the ability to meet all their Sept-Dec demand. In that case, holding back their supply in Sept-mid-Nov and releasing it in the holiday season does NOT impact all groups equally.

The assertion may or may not be silly - your post was still uncalled for.

Looks like the Wii has the market cornered of dreadfully awful mini-games. And the masochistic British people buy it.

Though it is amusing to see Assassins' Creed continue to outsell the Nintendo flagship...
So now UK is an odd market? Along with Germany, Spain, and of course, Japan. I can also quote you Swedish figures that will show them to be an odd market as well.

So which are the "non-odd" markets, just the US, Canada and Australia?

That's correct. I don't see why it's that unreal to you, considering that I'm a North American so what's different is a bit odd to me. That the Spanish enjoy framerate-plagued game and the British enjoy terrible games in general, while Japanese gamers love CGI and non-game games is odd to me.

It's noise because it's your repeated attempt at a strawman that was in response to one of the most retarded "theories" I've ever heard.

Yes, it kind of actually does. There's one supply pool for casual and hardcore gamers alike.

No, it's really not. There's only so much preposterous meandering that should be permitted in discussions.

This isn't IGN, if you want to discuss such stupid points as what LOTM won't stop flogging, then take it to IGN or other such sites like quartertothree where it will be a revelation and followed by dozens of animated GIFs.
