regarding a part of my first question, without risking too much spoilerage:

i think the arcane university apprentices DO respawn even if they are not in the university.

This opens the door for some amazing strategic opportunities. Too early to test my theory just yet, but i am fairly certain.

      THE ABOMB BUG

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/in...ic=813915&st=0 this is the 8th, and most current, thread on the issue

Keep in mind i dont post there, just lurk as i do their WIKI, which is how i found the bug. My current char has about 100+ hours so im halfway there.

Apparently this bug freezes all in-game animations once the game counter hits a certain number (that is an AAHZ-Summaryâ„¢) This bug has apparently been KNOWN by Bethesda for over a year and cannot be fixed. There is a temp user-fix that safely resets the counter a bit earlier but the problem hits again (see link). This is seen as a fatal game breaking bug. the XBOX and PS3 versions are permanently broken.

After declaring Oblivion to be one of the greatest games ive ever played, i am putting it on the shelf. I dont want to see my game borked.

          christ.

no sooner than i said it the damn thing hits me. Good thing i read that thread. Im only 122 hours in the game but i read that faster PC's get his sooner for some reason.

I noticed certain slowing of animations and frame when i look straight down or up for a while now. Ive seen sky glitches. But now i kill monsters and they are dead but their bodies are frozen in mid air.

Im off to try the fix. Ive heard that the first one listed in the OP of my above post is the best.

I hate to see this happen to this game. goddammit!

          I will keep you updated.

OK here is the mentioned fix.

click on the files tab, the one with 67,000 downloads is the main file, i think the other one is a de-borker beyond the point of all bork.

I just used the default value (40) representing the number of bytes in that particular memory string, in the utility after download, for the moment. You can run it as many times as you want with no ill effects. It only changes a few bytes of info. I understand you can even set it to 0, but i really dont know if thats a good idea, so i will wait. Before I changed it i was at 48 and 49 is the evil number, so i was almost at the point of complete bork.

For the record the game runs beautifully, now. All the strange glitches, and hangs, and monsters dead but hung in mid air and the rest of the scene going normal, and looking in certain directions causing frame lag is over. I was actually in an oblivion plane (The Chadenhall gate, on the bridge outside the portal tower.) at the time with 2 NPC's following me so i assumed a lot of crap could go wrong, if borked. But i ran that fix and all is well.

will update to see how many game hours runs before im back up to the 48-49 limit again. what a strange bug

ya thats with my 3rd (and current) char.

My last game (the mage from previous posts) i had ironically, 121 hours before i started this new game. The char before that i had about 53 hours but i screwed that game up.

this is not counting the 3 games i had on my old computer that i would estimate had a total of about 130 hours between them all.

so in total i have been playing oblivion for about ~426 hours.

i like the game a lot

That's funny, I didn't know what you meant about yahtzee in the metal gear thread. I went to his site to check it out.

Kinda funny, but now his voice is running through my head like a runaway freight train and that's more annoying than any game I could ever play.

                      • I'm amazed so many folks have problems with this game. I'm absolutely loving it. I haven't played the others in the series, but this game is awesome.

                        • I beat Oblivion pretty quickly then got bored of it and deleted it. IMO the game just doesn't have staying power to keep people interested.

                          • wow this thread is still around. Guess I never finished it. I did get bored after all. I'd imagine the time I got bored is whenever my last post in this thread (not this one of course) was. I just have no motivation to complete the main quests, or really any of the side quests.

But then again, I may revisit this game someday. It took 3 tries on Morrowind before I began to like that game. But even then, I never cared for the character and combat model (pretty much the basis of any rpg).
