okay I said this game is boring in otf, but yet I'm still playing. It is kinda boring, but kinda fun as well. sometimes I just like listening in on conversations npc's have with each other. it's a nice touch. along with routines they have. One of the strong points in this game.

weak points, there are so many. So I'm exploring a cave last night. Sure I kill a few things, not much in the chests except a little gold. I'm only level 4, so I guess good items won't pop up this early. Exploring seems pointless if you can't find any good items. I killed this one guy, I hope he isn't part of a quest (esp fighters or mage guild). That's why I prefer not to explore as I don't want to kill anyone I will have to kill for a quest later on. other weak points are lack of wildife in the wilderness. And just lack of things to kill in the wilderness, I suppose this is realistic in a way. Better than an mmorpg that has a mob every 5 yards. Mobs here are in realistic locations like camps, caves, and ruins.

Combat for me is tough. I don't have a lot of FPS skills. It's tough to aim with bows and magic. I mainly use destruction magic if the target is still and I want to pull them to me (esp if there's a trap between us). Though I suppose I could use destruction at point blank range??? I don't think there are attacks of opportunity etc. Melee isn't too hard, but blocking is annoying and it's hard for me to get the rythym down. So I use a 2 hander. I start off with harder blows (still not sure how to get the power attack), but usually dissolve into fast clicking, esp if it's a tough, furious battle. I have no discipline . I'm real careful with swinging if there are other npc's around, far too easy to hit them.

Sometimes the game is too open ended, and I don't know what to do. The only real draw for this game right now is progressing through the mages and fighters guild. I'm not sure how far I'll get through the mages guild, I'm a redguard and magic is a weak point for me. One of my magic skills is only 5. And then doing the main quest. Not sure what else to do. Eventually I may try the thieves guild and assassins guild with another char.

voice acting isn't as bad as everyone says it is. But they talk too damn slow! I just put subtitles on and click through it all. And I downloaded a mod to streamline the interface so it doesn't look like it was designed for 3rd graders. But I still can't figure out how to get the map screen to come up with one click if the last screen I was on was inventory, or quests etc. I wish I could hit the M key and map would come up, instead of all these unecessary clicks.

It's pretty choppy outside, but I don't want to lower the graphical settings anymore. I have a Radeon 9600 card, so it's struggling with the game. And I have the 3 main view distances at far. 0 antialiasing though, and low textures (which sucks).

and then they want you to pay for downloads it' was only like $1.70, but it's the point of it. If I actually do find I don't grow bored of this game in a couple days I may get game of the year addition, but that still doesn't include the small downloads.

so far I only have the one interface mod on my game. I'm thinking of downloading the character level up mod, but I'm not sure how it works exactly. I hate trying to get 5X on my skills. No game should have this kind of unrealistic micromanagement. I usually only get 3X or 2X on my skills, I'd rather just play instead of levelling up skills I don't really use much.

Any other mods I should have though?

I would recommend getting the knights of the nine expansion pack, its 20$ I think and comes with all the official mods.

There really is no point to exploring beyond the quest caves/ruins, since the loot is all leveled

I bought Oblivion when I first got a 360, but I didn't play much into it. The game is gorgeous looking, and I loved the sense of open exploration I had when I got out of the sewers or whatever it was at the beginning. The combat was atrocious, though. In the end I traded it to a friend. Maybe this was a mistake. I do get the occasional desire to finish the game. Who knows?

I stopped playing once I saw highwaymen with glass armor and daedric weapons and I was having to spend more time at my house lugging and storing crap then actually fighting and traveling into dungeons.

It was an average game for me. Personally, I liked the side quests and guilds more than the main story line.

I really liked the Dark Brotherhood quest line, but the main story line wasn't anything special.

oh one complaint about the voice acting. Stewart was okay, nothing special, as for the sean guy who they spent alot of money on I'm sure. I haven't heard all his lines so far. But it's monotone and sounds like he's half asleep and can't care less about the events in the game. sounds like he's in it only for the paycheck .

Not all screen actors can make the transition into voice acting.

I can say a lot of bad things about this game, but I spent over 100 hours playing it and did finish the main quest.

That being said, I cannot give it a bad rank for the amount of entertainment value I got out of it.

It did a lot of things right, but like most games, fell short on a few things.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

Who didn't? TES is never about the main quest. I rarely do any real work on the main quest in TES games until well after I'm too uber for them to be any fun anyhow...

                      QFT

I think the mod Serb mentioned in another thread fixes that.

I lost interest real fast and didn't finish it.

                      - Its pretty and all, but the main quest is uninspired, to say the least. The side quests, OTOH, are pretty good. And I haven't got to the Dark Brotherhood quests yet.

                      - Dialogue sucks.

                      - I still hate their character development system (having to practice a skill to level it up). Leveling up the non-combat related skills is really, really boring. Absolutely not fun. They tried to fix that in Oblivion with the mini games. But they are so poorly designed, I'm surprised they didn't get cut out of the game. Its as if the Oblivion developers were clueless about gameplay design.

                      - Compared to Morrowind, they improved the combat in Oblivion a bit. Its still pretty mediocre overall, IMO. I'm still not sold on first person melee combat. I'm not sure it can be done right. I just wish there was a way to lock on your opponent, like you can do in Fable for example. That way, you wouldn't have to worry about facing your opponent and worry instead on your actual moves, blocks, spells and hits.

Oblivion is the first TES game I've played, so no I didn't know that most people play mostly for the side quests.

                          Well read more carefully

One of my friends with Morrowind didn't realize there was a main quest for most of the game ... it was quite funny She didn't do anything in the main quest line at all, and when I asked her how the main quest was going she looked at me funny and asked what quest that was ...

That is pretty much how I felt. By the time I got done with all the side quests and started on the main quest again I didn't even remember most of the story.

I use Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul so there is actually a point to levelling up and exploring more than just the sewers below the city. Of course, this means that some quests are beyond my abilities currently as enemies have set levels. Tis good fun.
