If they did combat similar to that found in Mount & Blade then that would be great indeed.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I got bored of the main quest too. Morrowind's was much better. Morrowind had quite a few better side quests too. It's not on the level of Fallout or BG, but they made you want to complete them. Some of them, like the whole disappearance of the Dwarves, were pretty interesting.

I just stopped caring about Oblivion. There wasn't even much compelling reason to complete the main quest. There didn't even seem to be much back story. It was just some evil from Oblivion.

Over rated. At first I was completely hooked, and that moment when first getting out the dungeon will always be pretty special.

But from that point on the whole feeling of a wide open and epic rpg just got more and more narrow and closed in.
In the end it was that illusion of an epic rpg that Bethesda had created for Oblivion that just finished it of for me.

With the death of that ambition that had started out in Arena, been improved on in Daggerfall(but not fully realised), then made more detailed and less random in Morrowind; Oblivion came out a sorry last place in the series for me.

Modding didn't fix it for me - all I ever could end up with was the same action/fps game which tipped its hat in the direction of the rpg genre whilst losing the depth of play all it's predecessors had managed to achieve. It will probably remain my biggest gaming dissapointment for a long, long time.

Yes, compared to just about anything else released in the modern console game era, it is a good game with lots of gaming hours in it.

But as a TES game, and a sign of the direction Bethesda(mostly under Tod Howards leadership) were going to go with their games, it made me weep, and I was very happy to sell it on asap. I don't miss it at all infact.

If I want a deep expansive and truely epic single party crpg then I either carry on with my Daggerfall character(going for around three years now!) or play my super modded Morrowind(100+mods). Both games offer what Oblivion can never do due to it's design constaints.

So no looking back from me - now it's "Oblivion? the TES diablo clone?nah mate I prefer more meat on the bone in my rpgs."

Just recently a friend asked if he could have my old xbox Morrowind GOTY edition. He has a 360 and Oblivion(even paid for a few mods!), and did play vanilla Morrowind on his old xbox. Still as a non pc gamer he is dusting of that old xbox to play morrowind again. As he put it there is just more to Morrowind - and it's that which made the TES series such great games.

        RIP TES

I have it on the Xbox - I don't like the combat, I don't like the levelling system, and I don't much care for the story. So I've not played it a great deal.

I'll get back to this, honest But I'm finishing up my second go around with my evil RDD/FB char in NWN2. In the end, I prefer a solid story, gives me incentive to finish the game, unlike Oblivion. But I do miss the freedom to explore in games such as nwn2. But as I said, if there's no real incentive to explore in Oblivion, why do it?

Though I hear there's some kind of pirate ship mod. That's something I'd like to explore. As I'm seeing it now, the land is pretty barren; and when I do see ruins, I have no desire to explore them. I definately need more mods for this game.

              You need the OOO mod

It contains dozens of new additional quests/new items/and other new stuff.
With this mod exploring makes sense, because OOO changes the balance. With this mod you CAN always find a cool item (usually protected by pack of high level monsters), no matter what level your character has. With this mod lockpicking makes sense, because there are chests which could be opened only if your lockpicking skill is high enough. OOO expands alchemy, adding "geomancy" (using gems for spels or ingredients), etc, etc, etc.

You really should try it, Dis. OOO was a mod of the year. It's a "musthave" mod for Oblivion. And actually it's more than a mod, it's more like a total redesign of the game.

Daggerfall PWNed the whole damn series. at least it had an EXCUSE for being crappy graphically and buggy. and redundant and loopy. but goddammit i could play that game for days straight.

                  Morrowind was meh.

Oblivion just pissed me off with its complete lack of customer support, ridiculous animations, and overhyped graphics that i have seen better in games that came out 2 years ago (like Boiling Point) AND was supported by weaker cards. Frame rate cap pissed me of as well as a complete lack of respect for the MOD community (Oldblivion).

Bethesda can go to hell. you can kiss Half-Life goodbye too...

The scariest thing is that they are making Fallout-3 (aka Oblivion with guns )

yes, Fallout, thats what I meant. WHEN Bethesda screws it all up, it will NOT be pretty. There are some hardcore and fanatical Fallout players out there.

I use FCOM - it combines 4 major mods:
                            OOO
                            Mart's Monster Mod
                            Francesco's item mod
                            Warcry

                            I also use
                            Unofficial Oblivion Patch
                            Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
                            Tamriel Travelers (adds traveling merchants)
                            A new interface mod
                            "

Isn't Mount & Blade a third person game?

k, I already had darnified mod- makes inventory and such look like it was designed for an adult, not a 3rd grader.

Just downloaded unofficial patch and Kobu's level advancement system.

First time trying ooo didn't work. american server didn't give me the option to save and australian server had a bug when extracting using the 7 something program that I need to extract it. So I'm trying to download it from another server.
