I just read it on a Norwegian news site. I am no expert on technical details, but anyhow: Bungie has confirmed that the game runs in 1152 x 640, but claims the players won't feel the difference. They think missing 80 pixels is not important, but the gaming mag then say it's 184.000 pixels and that one fifth of the 720p picture is missing. That's the most important bits I think.

It runs in 1152 x 640 because it's actually rendering two 1152 x 640 frames per frame displayed (rather than just displaying 1280x720). This way both frames fit inside the 10MB eDRAM (256GB/s) for the framebuffer. This is how Halo 3 has the best lighting engine of any game out there.

This "Halo is not HD" bull**** from Nordic Nintendo fans and other fanboys is starting to get really annoying. If you don't know what the hell you're talking about, don't talk about it.

Saying "Bungie disagrees" with me implies what Bungie said contradicts what I said, which is completely nonsense. What Bungie said is exactly what I said, that they traded off absolute resolution for graphical fidelity.

Resolution is not everything. Ridge Racer 6 is 1080p on PS3 and 720p on Xbox 360, and it looks better on the Xbox 360. Why? Because instead of focusing soley on resolution, they did more with the pixels they already had.

1) This was already discussed
2) Your understanding is completely inaccurate
3) Citing local papers further obfuscates a technical understanding

If you want to understand more, check out the Beyond 3D thread where industry experts (including engine developers of competing games) explain the solution more and even "defend" Bungie's technical choices.

Of course it's HD. It outputs at 1080p in widescreen with DD5.1 surround sound with high dynamic range lighting and enormous emounts of polygons, rendered at a resolution substantially higher than SD.

I don't mercilessly tear down other people, I am responding to arguments about why this game is popular. Tearing down other people just looks embarrassing if you're a dork who games on XBL and boasts about his knowledge of HD resolution when "Nordic fanboys" (aka a dutch poster) ask innocently about it.
