Biggest Gaming Event in History: Halo 3 has arrived

While working on Civ2, Civ3 and a little of Civ4 was a hobby in my spare time (Civ2 of which led me into designing games for a living), I am currently working on Singapore-based games (coz thats where I live! but i'm pure kiwi mind you.) I am currently working on two of my favourite types of games, Adventure and TBS. I don't want to say anything about it in case it slaps me in the face somewhere down the line. But one thing I have learned from building these two types of games is that 1. Adventure games are graphic intensive and TBS is logic intensive; great for headaches.
Two near dead genres that exist almost exclusively on the pc, no wonder you're so threatened by consoles-with the paradigm shifting so heavily to consoles, there's not nearly the money in pc-only gaming. You should get a wii or a ds, that's where adventure gaming can still be financially rewarding.

It shows that I'm more than just a console gamer, and
likely
far more serious of a PC gamer than he is. It's to just knock him down a few notches from his PC-superiority nonsense he was spouting.
ah, likely, you misspoke when you said "guarantee", thanks for admitting your mistake.

You know it's inevitable whenever the good games come out on consoles that PC gamers want.
Seeing how this is already the third iteration of Halo, Id think anyone enthusiastic enough for this series to not be able to wait for the PC port would OWN a 360.
Indeed, it will be interesting to see, not how the game does in the market place - the loyal series fans will snap it up - but how much it moves more 360's, given that a lot of Halo fans already do own a 360.

Please; I don't want Halo 3.
Art is not connected to gameplay? Try enjoying Halo 3 in text mode. (requires the use of imagination).
Oh, I didn't know that art meant you programmed 3D engines. In that way, we're a lot of like.
No, art is not connected to gameplay in any way.
Let me help:
You> Look Around
- You look around, you see blue sky, green grass, a distant tree and your own gun.
You> Walk North
- You walk North
You> Look Around
- You look around, you see a figure in the distant.
You> Use binocular on figure
- You use your binoculars to see the figure up close, you recognise it as an enemy.
You> Run North
- You run North. You are being shot at.
You> Fire weapon at fig...
You have died.
Respawn.
You> Run Nor..
You have died.
Respawn.
You> Run Awa..
You have died.
You> Quit
You have quit the game.
Sir, you have picked a terrible example because I LOVED MUDs and MUSHes. In fact, I made a very popular sci-fi MUSH back in the day.

It's not so much my mistake as your not understanding obvious embellishment to make a point.

Well, I guess you don't remember the Xbox surge that Halo 2 caused....

oh, it was embellishment. I see.

He said art is not connected to gameplay. Do you and Asher even know what art is?
Why do you say poor graphics, when I am talking about the ABSENT of graphics, (or the ABSENT of art).
Then you insult me with real-world skills, when you can't comprehend my posts correctly. Americans.. sigh..
You are talking about the absence of textures. You wouldn't know the first thing about making a graphics engine or writing vertex/pixel shaders. This is something I do have experience in and I do understand. I'm far more aware of what constitutes graphics in a game than you are -- you make the odd texture/model, but this has nothing to do with GAMEPLAY.
You value your role way too highly in the grand scheme of things. Artists in video games are at the bottom of the totem pole -- the game designers dictate what the programmers do, the programmers dictate what the artists do.

How does the 360 install base now compare to the Xbox install base at that point?

Comparable, last I checked.

my sense is that art, beyond the aspects that directly effect the interface (which DO impact gameplay, see SMAC - the graphics engine, IIUC, was ok, it was the color palate and art assets that made it hard to see stuff, and made the game less playable for some of us - and yeah, im sorry to bring up an ancient example) is important to immersion.
Is Halo3 not strong on immersion? Is that not a selling point?

Immersion does not affect gameplay. Please make an effort to stick to the topic.
You don't even need textures for a great game. Look at Mario 64 -- most of the objects in that world were textureless.
