Don't you know the console is just a dumbed down PC to milk more money from those who don't know any better?

You need a tight slap man.
I play both, and I guarantee you I've more PC games than you with a far more competent gaming PC than you.

I'm a gamer, which is why I own all the consoles and a gaming PC. I'm sorry that you're not in a similar position, it makes your opinions look a bit ridiculous.

    • How can you make that claim when you have no idea what it is I do and what system I have?

      • Is it better than a Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.9GHz w/ GeForce 8800 Ultra (@650MHz) w/ 4GB of RAM?

I highly doubt it, but it is possible...

So what do you have, being the starving artist you are?

        • Console games aren't really dumbed down. Most games are pretty dumb on PC too, though admittedly consoles could use one or two more strategy games.

lovely, but i already knew your opinion.

Which isn't surprising considering the review came straight out of his ass (notice how he included precisely zero screenshots as well

I cant remember ever seeing screenshots in a Tom Chick Qto3 essay.

Goldeneye 007: 8 million copies sold
Perfect Dark: 2.5 million copies sold

Halo: Combat Evolved: 5 million copies sold
Halo 2: 9.2 million copies sold

Lovely, but of zero relevance to the discussion.

Nothing to "get involved with", we're just having a friendly chat.

yeah I have looked at the site from time to time, but don't frequent it

              Any opinions of it?

It is possible though kind of odd (disclaimer: I can't really claim to know Perfect Dark that well though as it was released late in the N64s lifespan and I only played parts of it on a friend's machine) as although PD was arguably the better game overall it was clearly a refinement of earlier Goldeneye gameplay - kind of like Civ2 versus Civ.

GoldenEye was pretty much the big step forward for console FPS games (though the first FPS console game I actually liked was an Aliens game on the original PS a couple of years earlier). Having said that I don't think making such a slip necessarily invalidates a review of Halo 3.

              • It alone doesn't invalidate the review, but in conjunction with the other factors already discussed puts it into doubt.

                • I have the same system as you but I have 2 of them.

I don't know your age Asher, but when I was a young kid, PC's were not used for games, consoles and arcade machines were, then when PC's (which were mainly used for processing) matured enough to handle games sensibly, you started seeing more games being developed for the PC - and they were becoming better than games for consoles. The hybrid of the two were computers like the Amiga, which at one point in gaming history, virtually owned the gaming industry.

But what was clear to most people from about 1995 onwards was the increasing strength the PC was delivering and a lot of credit can be handed to Microsoft for that. But how can Sony get a piece of this pie? They can't, they can only do hardware, so they release the PS1, and it became so popular to the non-gaming nitwits that PS2 was born and Microsoft realised it could also milk the millions of nitwits AND gain more CONTROL over the industry. And now look what is happening, the damn consoles are becoming more and more PC-like; and where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, the 1980's to early 1990's.

At the turn of about the year 2000 the PC was built for gamers by gamers; and for a damn good reason, consoles take the power away from you, PC's GIVE you power, give you freedom of choice; that is how PC's came to have so many great games and still do, where as consoles are still restricted, dumbed-down mainstream drivel, with only a few exceptions - which of course is to be expected.

As for my profession, I am a graphic designer to be more precise; I have been in the process of designing games for coming to 7 years, I don't do the programming, I do the artwork, but I am also considered a lead-designer. While I don't understand most of programming, I have gotten knee-deep in gaming engines, DirectX, etc. I have also experienced the many headaches that come with designing and building games. Honestly, judging from what I have done, and from what I remember what it is you do, I think I have a little more experience in the field. Just playing them and reading about them is not nearly enough to be considered a knowledged person about games.

Not the games, the machine itself.

Don't worry, reading isn't for everyone.

I see Well, I have infinity+1 of them!

I've skipped the rest of your lecture, because I've no desire to be lectured on the history of computers from an artist(e). From skimreading it, your repeated misunderstanding of virtually everything you mentioned was not amusing enough to hold my interest.

(For the record, neither the Playstation nor Xbox were really about gaining a piece of the video gaming market. That's a common shortsighted misconception from people not capable to see the big picture)

So the ownership of systems is only relevant when you have bigger or more systems. Gotcha.

So actual work in the industry doesnt matter. Better a programmer who doesnt work in the industry than an artist who does. Gotcha.

Which, if true, is a business strategy and not necessarily connected to art or coding. And as we have discussed before the notion of either MS or Sony "owning the living room" questionable, theres lots of other players in the game, from a variety of different angles.

                            What is matter??
