Biggest Gaming Event in History: Halo 3 has arrived

Yes. Halo was always a trilogy. Hence the slogan, "Finish the fight" for Halo 3. It picks up where Halo 2 left off.
It won't be the last game in the Halo universe, of course. The next game is Halo Wars, which is completely different from Halo 1-3...

I do not comprehend how people can take issue with the fact that they didn't radically change the gameplay in the 3rd game of a trilogy. Honestly, people...
I think any major change would be nice. Kind of like Warcraft 2 to Warcraft 3, Civ 3 to Civ 4, or Starcraft to Starcraft 2.
When I get it you can kick my ass if you like. I suck at these games, and I'm sure you'll enjoy killing me.
Unfortunately I'm no good at competitive shooters either. I have a friend who used to be really -- really -- bat**** ****ing crazy about Halo 2. Losing a match for him was like someone killing his girlfriend. Of course I never beat him but I gained a new understanding for just how good some people can be at FPS..

which is being made by ensemble, a company so apparently marginal that affiliation with it is not worth noting in discussing whether posters on a give site are involved in the gaming industry.

Those are not trilogies?
Do you understand the concept? It's the same game, split over 3 games.
Like Lord of the Rings. Would it have been AWESOME for the last LOTR movies to be told from the perspective of a Ferengi that stowed away in a hobbits' shoe?

Anonymous posters that you didn't even cite from the company are not worthwhile.
For all I know the "ensemble employee" you mention corrects typos in the user manuals.
Good try though.

Warcraft is a 3-game trilogy. Keep in mind, I am not looking for a different story perspective or plot. Games, unlike movies, involve interaction as well as story. The interaction is what needs changing to keep it fresh. Not major changing, but rehashing is no good either.

Warcraft is not a trilogy...yes, there are three versions. But Did WC2 have a cliffhanger ending that WC3 solved? No...

Since when does a trilogy need to have a cliffhanger? WTF?
Please, just because there is the same story does not mean they can release the same game with new mission objectives three times. Improvements are kind of to be expected at some level. There are no major ones in Halo 3 from Halo 2 or even 2001's Halo 1.
Clearly the Warcraft games are not a trilogy and the Halo games are. I know people want to argue with Asher because of his standard love-it-hate-it-there's-never-any-middle-ground approach to almost any issue, but please pick more sensible fights.
I will be happy to act as arbiter on whether or not arguments should be pursued.

You clearly don't understand the concept of a trilogy. Was the 2nd LOTR a "major innovation" on the 1st? Likewise for the 3rd?
You don't seem to get it. I don't know how else to explain it. Gamers LOVE the gameplay in Halo. Each iteration it is refined, but at the core the same. Gamers have proven to love this, they don't want the game ruined.
It's a trilogy of a proven franchise with millions of gamers aching to buy it. It's a 3-game story arc with a new version released every 3 year. Each singleplayer campaign is refined gameplay wise from the one before. There's no reason to majorly change the gameplay.
Tweaks are made, additions are made, etc. That's how it should be.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

See post 113, I did cite them.

The different LOTR's were story-based. Halo's story is not going to approach the level of Tolkien any time soon.
The game is popular because of how it handled shooting and graphics in Halo 1 and 2. It would have been nice if they added something new to the mix aside from run-and-gunning with nothing new whatsoever. As it stands, I don't see what is revolutionary about this game?
Is your argument it is revolutionary because Halo 1 and 2 were revolutionary? At what point should the Halo games innovate?
Why would I? Someone who is not a fan of Halo is "underwhelmed" by Halo 3? I'm shocked. Apparently she also doesn't like FPS games?
Even more shocked this comes from Destructoid, which I've already dismissed -- clearly I was on to something.
Someone should suggest to her she go back to her Wii Sports or Cooking Mama. There's no point in writing about a game you have no intention of playing in a genre you don't like.
What an awful site. Really.
You responded almost word for word as expected. You're a programmer, you should probably just write a script that will auto-respond for you.
Now, for anyone else with reading comprehension and without a giant chip on their shoulder, I think they'll find the discussion interesting.
