  • ask Vesayen - about games

Lord of the mark is not a true gamer, half of his responses are "I never played that game!"

So as he has been unable to fulfill his duties, I am stepping up to fill the void.

Ask me anything, as long is it relates to games or gaming.

as a quick note, I thought it would be questions about my broad opinions about various genres, what games I own or play in them, how I got into gaming, and other personal (but game related) crap like that. Detailed questions about specific games are clearly silly when asked of an individual who may not have played them. Folks really took it the wrong way.

Having said that, let me ask you the following specific questions

    1. Simtower, is it too focused on elevator management? How would you modify it to make it a more accurate sim? Is it worth building hotel rooms?

    2. In "The Great Game" scenario for Civ2, is it easier to play UK or Russia? If you're Russia, should you go for India first, or Constantinople, and why?

    3. Which was the better aspect of TOT - the sci fi scenarios, the fantasy scenarios, the editing tools, or the new graphics?

    4. Whats the lowest spec PC one can REALLY play EU2 on?

    5. SPI or Avalon Hill? Why?

    6. In Caesar 3, whats the best ratio of engineers to prefects? Is it worthy training auxiliary troops?

    7. In Simcity 2000, whats the best power source for a city with no mountains? Assume you dont build
    mountains.

    8. What airplane do you prefer when playing MS Flight Sim 98?

    9. Monkey Island - whats the key to winning insult duels?

    10. What can change the nature of a man? Name the game, AND answer the question.

    11. In Divided Ground, in the Jerusalem '48 scenario, where should the Israeli player try to break through into the old City -from due west, southwest, or southeast? In the hill of evil counsel scenario, where should he place his artillery?

    12. Which techs in MOO2 are achievable in real life in the next 100 years?

    13. In Sid Meiers Gettysburg, do you use the bugle calls to keep track of whats going on? Which is your favorite bugle call? Do you generally maneuver by brigades, regiments, or companies?

    14. In Victoria, whats the best way for Sweden to beat Russia in a war? What is your favorite factory, and why? If playing the US, how much of Mexico do you go for in your first war with them?

I agree LotM is out of his depth in the other thread, but you probably are too.

No, I am not going to start a thread.

Yeah I got that, but unfortunately making this one point does not counter your inability to predict that the thread would be used to ask you the kinds of questions it evoked!

                          Been out all day, sorry.

Introduce mechanics to increase rent control and interact MORE with the outside world, such as advertising campaigns, negotiating with the government and major corporations etc.

I am not familiar with the acronym, unabbreviate it and I’ll give my response.

                          4. Whats the lowest spec PC one can REALLY play EU2 on?
                          I played it on a Pentium 3.

                          5. SPI or Avalon Hill? Why?
Did you even have to ask? Avalon hill! Empire of the rising sun, nuff said!

                          6. In Caesar 3, whats the best ratio of engineers to prefects? Is it worthy training auxiliary troops?
Auxillaries are worthless. Prefect spamming is more effective, can be destroyed after to keep upkeep low, combined with towers. There is no set “ratio” necessary for engineers to prefects, it depends on how spread out your city is, I usually do a 1-1 ratio and simply have far more converage then is necessary.

                          7. In Simcity 2000, whats the best power source for a city with no mountains? Assume you dont build
                          mountains.
Build mountains and then make hydroelectric. There is no “don’t build mountains”. Barring that, coal plants far from the city are the way to go. Cheap and the pollution is negligible if you keep them far enough away, as are any explosion problems, just be mindful that you can afford to replace them as they get old.

                          8. What airplane do you prefer when playing MS Flight Sim 98?
I said ask me about GAMES. Flight sims are not games.

                          9. Monkey Island - whats the key to winning insult duels?
I have not played monkey island in 10 years….

                          10. What can change the nature of a man? Name the game, AND answer the question.
Planescape torment! One of the greatest RPGs ever. The answer is death, the one thing denied to the nameless one.

                          11. In Divided Ground, in the Jerusalem '48 scenario, where should the Israeli player try to break through into the old City -from due west, southwest, or southeast? In the hill of evil counsel scenario, where should he place his artillery?
                          Beyond my experience.

                          12. Which techs in MOO2 are achievable in real life in the next 100 years?
100 years is a *LONG* time to forcast technology… however to start, I’d go with automated factories and lasers with serious military applications.

                          13. In Sid Meiers Gettysburg, do you use the bugle calls to keep track of whats going on? Which is your favorite bugle call? Do you generally maneuver by brigades, regiments, or companies?
                          Beyond my experience.

Which was your favourite Monkey Island game? And which was your favourite Broken Sword game?
Broken sword 3. Not the most popular but my favorite. Why? Because we get a decent adventure game released once every 5 years or so now a days and it was better then nothing. My favorite monkey island is the original, which is also the first video game I ever played.

Be that as it may, you should still remember.

In number one, the key is to know the insult and reply pairs. If you know an insult but not a reply, use that insult when you can. Eventually someone will know the reply to it. If you know the replies to all insults available to you, perhaps deliberately losing a round is worthwhile. This allows your opponent to throw an insult at you, eventually you will get the entire set.

In short, the key to ensuring a victory is repetition. Once you (the character, and the player) know the insult and reply pairs, you are guaranteed a victory. Of course, once you know all the insult / reply pairs, winning insult duels is pointless.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
