  • The video is describing you guys

I don't play videogames anymore. Not sure why. And, no, I don't read silly comic books either.

      • I don't get the video. Should I be wasting my time watching the Simpsons? Good video. Simpsons when they were funny. . comic book guy

If I didn't waste my time playing this game, I'd waste it doing something else. I would never do anything productive with my time. And I can't just have a life. It's not like I could just go out right now and get a hot girlfriend.

About an half hour per week, tops. Is that a lot?

Comic book guy is about to die and realizes that he wasted his life.

I don't mind wasting time. After all, all work and no play makes Dis a dull boy. Except that WOW and other MMORPG's are wastes of time of gargantuan proportions. They take over your life. The worst part is that they're not even that fun to begin with. They're extremely addictive, that's for sure. But I don't believe its because they're incredibly fun. WOW is about 80% grind. And it gets worse and worse the more you advance in level. Civ 4 is a lot more fun than WOW, IMO, but its nowhere as addictive. Its a bit like cigarettes. They're a lot more addictive now than they were 30 years ago. Its not because they taste better, but because they added secret ingredients. I would like to know what are the "secret ingredients" they add to MMORPG's in order to make them so addictive.

And I can't just have a life. It's not like I could just go out right now and get a hot girlfriend.

              • Well I have a hot girlfriend, cool job, and I still have time for gaming. It's called efficiency.

                • You see, Dis? There's hope.

BTW, I just returned from a bike ride. At one point, I saw hundreds of larpers duking it out with their fake weapons. It was huge melee, I tells ya.

                  • OMG i started playing WoW too... and heres my opinion...

I got so tired of my friends blabbering about the latest raid or whatever theyve been upto in their lil WoW world so I got a copy with 1 month subscription. It turns out that I was right after all... its really tedious and boring grinding for levels, running around doing repetitive quests that are all similar (get this item, talk to this guy) all so you can advance to do it... again.

But on a positive note, I was really amazed at how large this game was. It's got its own mass transit system, mail, bank and what not. Maybe to some of you MMO regulars its a nifty feature WoW implemented or something, but having been my first MMO experience I was really surprised when my friend told me that the map I'm seeing is not even 10% of the entire world. Damn I spent a whole day just walking the day I got the game...

Also, In my personal experience, it IS fun when you're getting together andbulls*tting with friends, but that happens like maybe 1-2 hour out of the whole weekend because all my friends after college lives all over the place, so real life and time zone difference really complicates things. So the other 90% of the time you're either playing alone to do catch up with rest of your friends or partying with some random jackass who's annoying the crap out of you or doing your friend a favor and escorting him around quests.... And to make matters worse you always have couple a friends in their own lil realm trying to recruit you out of whatever realm you're in... Either that convince you to make another charcter there...

Anyway... so once I've actually gave up being stubborn and gave the game a try, it turns out its not as bad as I thought it was... but in some ways I was right about it. I'm not sure if I wanna buy the Exp pack or extend my subscription. But I cant say that I hated trying out World of Warcraft.
                    :-p

                    • There are wow moments in WOW. Like the huge and diverse world, the first time you visit Ironforge, the first time you fly, etc. But you'll have fewer and fewer of those as you progress. And, as far as I'm concerned, there's not enough of these wow moments to tolerate the mindnumbingly boring grind.

                        Hehe I knew you would.

My take was great till level 35 or 40 or so, then boring till 55. Great 55-60 gearing up & doing the 5 man instances. Raiding was great for a while too.

No plans to play the expansion here at the moment though.

expansion is fun. So many good quest rewards. It really helps out since I didn't stop at 60 and do instances for epic gear. I have no epics actually. My DPS has really shot up. I was really lagging in the late 50's with crappy gear, and my pet was doing more damage than me. . I've far surpassed my pet now.

It can be annoying though. I'm dying more . Died once last night because alliance cleared the area a few minutes before me, and they all seemed to respawn at once.

The biggest problem is wall to wall mobs, and fast respawn times. One minor boss respawns every 45 seconds. If you look at my minimap (showing demons at the time), the cluster of dots is so thick, you can't make much out. Hunter tracking isn't that useful, as you know there's wall to wall creatures.

I couldn't imagine doing the outlands with a weaker class. Perhaps the classes aren't weaker, but I don't play them well. I suck at classes that are equipment dependent like warriors and rogues. Because I never have any good equipment. Although hunters need good equipment as well, but they have a pet to balance things out.

                            • hmm, my spacebar is acting funny. I blame wow (as I like to jump alot). It's noisy now, and coming up slightly on the left side. oh well. I've had this keyboard almost 10 years, probably time for a new one.

                              • well like i said, its my first mmo so the impact on the bigness was even more. im sure it will get old, but i just couldnt believe that stormwind alone was bigger than the biggest battlefield titan maps....

Evrn if I hated everything about the game, I'd still be impressed at the marvel of how large the game is, yet there is hardly any loading time nor lag between areas... game plays pretty smoothly. And I get 190-230ms while torrenting. And its very playable. That is just awesome.
                                :-p
