  • I only intend on using succubus on humanoid targets. seems silly to use them otherwise.

Gnomes: Why would I want to roll a gnome, unless my troll is going bowling?
qft. though I did roll one, but have since deleted her.

and lol, I do have a female undead mage stuck at 17. haven't had the heart to delete her, might play her someday.

    • Yes I rolled a gnome once. Then I got adopted by strange couple-gamers. That went on my list of things to not try again, ever.

Succubus deals more damage. If you're affliction (and you should be for levelling) then once you get the mana-suck ability the Succubus is ideal for using it on - you just leave her spells off and take all her mana.

The point of affliction grinding is you drain-tank - you don't have your pet tank the mob, YOU tank the mob. Usually goes like:
Immolation, Corruption, shadow bolt (maybe), drain life until it's nearly dead, drain soul. Suck some mana from the pet, next mob. It's nifty (before you get mana suck you just have the Succubus use lash of pain to increase damage).

Because you're tanking the mob, the only thing your pet is needed for is DPS and mana - and may have to offtank an add. It's easy to take agro from the Succubus (especially with her lash turned off) because she has nice agro reducing abilities.

In particularly addy areas it might be of benefit to have the Voidwalker out and kill more slowly because he's such a great tank / escape tool, but usually the Succubus is good enough.

        • hmm, but those are channelled spells and when you are getting pounded on they run out much faster.

and I'm not affliction. though I'm tempted to respec. I'm demonologist.

well I got her staff from the level 31 warlock quest. I'm going to take a break from her. She's at 34 now.

waiting a couple more days on my hunter and I should have over 1 level of rest bonus, should be able to grind out 2 levels fairly quick.

          • my server doesn't seem to exist anymore. visited the offiicial site, most realms are down it seems. figured it would at least say offline, it just doesn't show up on the server list.

i looked up drain tanking. I can't see how to do it with my spec without burning through massive amounts of mana.

            • I think that affliction is the fastest leveling up until 50 or so (when you can get the felguard).

and yeah, you probably need to be speced afflection to do it properly

              • would have been funnier if you left out the l in your typo. affection spec. love the monsters to death. .

                • You HAVE to be affliction spec to drain tank.
The ability... fel concentration I think it is, that's key. But also general health/mana efficiency, improved corruption, higher damage, all those things help.

Affliction is great anyway because it totally rocks for dealing with mass Adds, you can just dot everything with ease, it's like you can keep 1-2 mobs off you with fear, tank a 3rd, and have a 4th tanked by your pet .

You might have thought that the Demonology tree is like beastmastery for the hunter. It isn't. Demonology is more like survival for the hunter, it's a utility tree which helps you survive without adding all that much damage.

Demonology does have some dps talents high in the tree, but that makes it something to respec to...

                  • reading up on the rest bonus, seems it maxes out at 10 days. it's actually good to have lots of alts. the thing is I only like a few of my chars.

I'm trying so hard to like alliance, it just isn't happening. I instead made a blood elf paladin. I told myself I wouldn't do that, but... She's now level 22. I had my hunter get a blood elf bandit mask from azuremyst isle. that was a pain in the ass. Took about 15 blood elf bandits for it to drop.

I'm going to try to make her a healer. If they are viable at high levels, why not lower levels? She's holy spec. I'm not sure if she will have enough mana to heal in an instance, but we'll see. Need to try to get her some int gear. I can compensate by not doing the instance at too low a level. I prefer paladins over priests. It just isn't the cloth, I just don't like priests mode of attack. The biggest drawback is I don't have a heal over time spell. If I had stuck with my dranai pally I'd at least have her racial ability. But my dranai was retribution anyways. I want to be a healer.

The thing about alts is you should only play them one day a week or so. But I get in a mood and play them several days straight. Been playing my pally like 2 days now. I really like her. This is the highest level pally I've had.

So now the only alliance char I want to try to push up is my dranai warrior. She's at 26. I should at least do the alliance quests once. I think I'm going to respec her protection. I want to be a tank. I don't think it's as hard as people say it is. Just need a decent healer. I was partied with a druid the other day. Did a crappy job keeping my health up. died 3 times. But it does require good equipment, something I don't have. I'm very poor right now. Esp as that's my only ally char.

                    • Tanking...

A good healer can offset a tank's bad gear. Of course good gear on the tank can offset a weaker healer (in gear or levels).

A good tank can certainly make life easier for a healer. I assume you know that if a mob ever touches the healer, you've ****ed up in your role as a tank, you should kill yourself for sucking so much - that is, AFTER reducing the mob which touched the healer into a bloody puddle of shattered gibs.

Good Tank + Bad Healer is a lot easier than Bad Tank + Good Healer.

Note that Druids are innately bad healers, because they have no agro reduction and are bad at casting when wailed on. With a Druid healer, both tank and healer need to be more skilled, than with a priest healer. There's little room for sloppy play. I would say it's also important to have non-retarded dps but in all honesty it doesn't matter that much - yes the Druid will kill themselves if they heal the misbehaving dps, but withholding heals is an effective counter. Bad healers also heal dps. Good healers have a tough love policy.

You don't need to be prot spec to tank. I tanked lots of instances on my warrior as Fury, I just kept a good shield on me and from bear-tanking my skills were top-notch, it was easy. Only once I was in high 50's did I respec to Prot.

Respecing to prot mainly just helps prolong healer mana, because prot reduces damage. The more damage you take, the more rage you build, and the more agro you can generate. So Prot is easier on healer mana but that's all (the healer generates less agro from doing less healing, but you also generate less agro from having less rage).
Also consider that Fury does more damage and generates more rage, meaning more agro - that means that the +agro talent in Prot is not necessarily a big selling point - it mainly offsets the lower damage of prot rather than actually improving agro generation. I tend to think that Fury is better for tanking than Arms.

                      • Which class do you think is best suited for Undead?
<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running.

                        • any class

but preferribly a class that takes damage. I see a lot of undead warlocks. but warlocks can life drain. And if you use your pet to tank, they never take damage.

I don't actually know how effective the consume corpses really is, however. But I think it would be beneficial to rogues and warriors to reduce downtime.

I have an undead mage I haven't played in over 2 months. . mages do take some damage, but I find I didn't use the consume corpse ability that much. underwater breathing is convenient, but not necessary.

                          • messing around with undead a little today. cannibalize doesn't seem very great. I don't know.

People say they make better magic classes. They have good spirit, so I guess they'd make good priests. But they have 6 less intellect as mages compared to blood elves.

I just wanted to mention my paladin pwns in pvp. As I knew she would. I'm not even good at pvp, yet no one has come even close to taking me in duels. I had a warlock ask that I attack his pet and not him. So I proceeded to kill blue man (had to heal myself once during this), then I proceeded to kill the caster.

I'm convinced paladins are unbeatable in pvp if played by a competant player.

undead were the old race for magic classes (Horde)

undead have a nice special ability (anti fear)
