  • I did a stealthy/strength build. Sure it's not optimal, but it's what I felt like playing. And once Enserric and Nameless Light are both +10, do 2d6 acid damage each, plus a bunch of other upgrades, it doesn't really matter anyway. Yes - I went with two weapon fighting.

My AC isn't all that great, but most stuff is dead before it even knows I'm there.

    • If you're planning to continue after HotU (hint, hint, Sands of Fate), you'll regret acid as elemental damage, it's just for one mob (and a fairly easy one at that). Cold will do better. On my first run I even replayed HotU chapter 3 completely for exactly that reason. Btw I'd drop Enserric, his ability to talk costs valuable improvement slots, and don't work in other modules anyway. Better improve the heck out of some other weapon.

      • I grabbed the Valsharess's whip (pause/strip her/unpause/cut scene ) and made it +10 w/cold damage.

And I like keeping Enserric around for laughs. I'll ditch him later.

Is Sands of Fate the only decent post-HotU mod? It's the only one I've played - just wondered if there's anything else out there that I might be missing.

        • So far it's the only one I consider worth playing. I'm a bit picky with that, though. I don't want to play this-and-that to get my character to 40, splitting the effort over many modules. I want a module that gets me from 28 (my usual HotU end level) to the cap in one run. And the three SoF's blend together well, they are like chapters of one big campaign.

How do you strip the Valsharess? Never heard of that.

By the way I learned, that SoF sucks for a caster, because it has respawning trash mobs on the way to each quest dungeon. So that when you arrive, you're usually empty and already have to rest. I'm not fond of respawning mobs in such a largely SP campaign, they're more for persistent worlds. Also, you don't get new spells within the epic levels (aside from the few epic ones which mostly suck) and it becomes more and more difficult to get through the mob's resists, especially with bosses. I played Heliopolis with a clean wizard and had difficulties to get down mobs that made my later played fighter/cleric/CoT yawn.

You need to pause immediately after killing her, then you should be able to click on her and loot her. If you don't pause fast enough, the Mephistopheles cut-scene starts and he sends you to Cania with no chance to loot her.

Gamey? Maybe.... but I really wanted the whip.

            • I have a project for some dark day to play through the OC with an evil female cleric worshipping Loviatar (the goddess of pain). I want to give her a whip "Gift of Loviatar":

+1, 1 vampiric for chapter one
+2, 2 vampiric for chapter two
+3, 3 vampiric for chapter three and four.

In order to have her wield it from level one (you can't give a level one cleric exotic - need 1 BAB for it) I prepared bracers which give the feat but don't do anything else - so I am enforced to take exotic later by myself or I end up with pretty crappy (compared with others) bracers. EDIT - for explanation - the vampiric is mentioned in the weapon's description, that you draw pleasure from the victim's pains, which your goddess converts to health. This way, the more you whip, the healthier you are. I tried not to overpower it, though. It's still some help, considering an 1d2 whip is a pretty crappy weapon. Btw, Grimgnaw would be a great companion, RP wise.

I wanted to hand her the stuff in a special 2x2 sized module, which contains nothing but a chest with the 3 whips and the bracer.

              • Finally got around to finishing HotU (been distracted by eye-candy games with my newly built computer ). Wow - the ending sure is "meh". Guess that's why I had no recollection of the ending.

I guess I'm done with NWN for now (again). I'm sure I'll be back again someday.

                • Yeah, I prefer the end of SoU. The whole chapter at the end of HotU when you're in hell (in the game!) drags for me.

                  • It has some amusing puzzles, which are nice exactly once. Combat is mostly dull except the Order of the Long Death fight, which can be challenging with some classes. The end battle can be avoided by buying Meph's True Name (and frankly, what else do you still need money for that late in the game), and even if you don't (which I never do btw) it's ridiculously easy. My main problem with that chapter is, that it's raining +8 items, when +5 or +6 would be more appropriate considering the level (please leave us some reason to play future modules...).

Which you can pump up to +10 with whatever else you want by going to a certain smith.

Funny thing is, I didn't even realize the smith was available in Cania until this time through.

                      • You use your money to buy other people's names so you can boss them around. At least, that's what I did.

Oddly enough, I found these irritating after the first time.
