Hands up if you need a lesson in how the XP penalty works,

    1. If you're Dr Spike, and obviously trying to powergame, go to page 147.

    2. If you're anyone else, and wants to create a playable and roleplayable character, then post here, and go to the next post (or two) after yours.

(kind of copywrite, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone)

Well I already know how it works so I'll stay here.

I'm sure we appreciate this. Posting here would be half as entertaining without sending a crack in your direction every now and then.

Well it's natural for the moderately skilled to be jealous of the elite.

Yea, and I'm really jealous of Duke.

By the way, I'm just playing Darkness over Daggerford and having a blast. Only shame there's a money dupe in it, even though it's really unnecessary to exploit it, as money is abundant anyway (even more as a rogue).

Funny how you found the dupe so quickly. I may have to demote you from moderately skilled to skilled abuser.

To find out a dupe in form of a merchant, who sells cheaper than he buys, is really not that hard. I have Appraise high (for the first time), that may be the cause or at least add to the severity.

I didn't abuse it, that's beneath me, especially since money is abundant anyway. Who wants to cheat and add money, skills or items, can do so freely, much easier and without any dupe just using dm_* commands. But what would be the point playing then?

You tell me - this seems to be a particular area of expertise on your part.

Hehe, I could use that expertise to remove the completely useless exotic weapons feat I took at level 9 in the hope to find a moderately good kukri to wield offhand for my halfling. Mind you that only very small weapons offhand reduce the attack penalty to -2/-2 for dual wielding, if you're playing a small sized character. But alas, the only kukri I found so far is a plain one without any benefits for some 20 gold. And such a knife is even beneath my standards.

Hmm, you learned the feat 'dodge' I see.

As halfling rogue - not yet. It's not a vital rogue feat, because it works only if you're under attack, and if that happens to you as rogue, you're definitely doing something wrong.

As poster I wouldn't call it so. I even mentioned that "expertise" in my reply. That I didn't further elaborate it, I wouldn't call dodge. I would call it ignoring unbased and irrelevant accusations of a lousy debater.

Joke aside, there are only 2 situations where I used the dm_* commands.

The first is the infamous Lenton bug in the OC chapter 2, where that fighter (Lenton) in the barracks of the archeological camp gives you the quest to kill the troll chieftain. When you return with the troll head, you find him busy beating on a dummy with his fists and not responding to your talk requests. One of the possible solutions is to sneak into the barracks and talk to him out of stealth, because he begins to beat the dummy only after he gets aware of you. If you don't have a sneaky build, there is the command dm_togglefactionattack (or similar) to get his attention. I think the bug is fixed meanwhile.

The second is dm_giveXP, conveniently used to design character builds. Not to play (avoiding the inevitable Spikean mock), but to tinker with attributes, feats and skills. Sounds powergamerish, but hey, roleplaying does not necessarily mean playing with weak characters.

There's no need to be defensive.

There is a kukri in the junk shop in DoD.

Yes, I had a lot of trouble trying to find a kukri too.
