Update - we finally did get the new computer, 3 Ghz or so, 512 MB RAM. High end IG.

SC4 looks pretty, but from what Colon says, might not run too well even on these specs. And no real intense enthusiasm for the gameplay.

Sounds like SC3000 would be the best bet. I could buy that as part of the Simmania pack, which also includes Simgolf, and a couple of other things. Probably a good deal now.

I find I like to have around to play a couple of strat games, a simulation of some kind, and some game in "all other' (IE RPG/adventure/maybe FPS)

Since Im still playing EU2, am at an almost addicted phase with Victoria, have started HOI, and have gotten back to AOK, im not in the market for another strat game. And im not looking for another "all other" game till im done with MI4 (insult-wrestling, give me a break) so im really interested in a sim. RCT was worth it (considering what i paid for it) but ive put it aside - it really needs a full sand box mode - so i havent played any tycoon/sim game in while. Since we wont be getting the Sims soon (to avoid providing POTM another distraction from homework - she agrees on this) Id be looking for a citybuilder, and I think SC3000 sounds like just the ticket.

SC4 runs rather smoothly on my specs. It's only unstable.

I'm looking forward to SimCity5, which I just read EA has announced is in the making!

As for SC3k vs SC4, SC4 is a good game, but I never got close to having as much fun with it as I had with SC3k (although I admit I never got the XP, I lost interest in SC4 pretty fast and didn't have the money to throw away).

I would think SC4 would run fine on that... I run it on a 1.8GHz with 512MB ram, and it's pretty much stable on all but the largest maps when they're fully developed. YMMV, of course...

I never doubted a new SimCity would come. I never implied it anywhere either. I still was glad when I saw the announcement. I couldn't care less for the announcement of The Sims 3 though.

They did? I remember reading something about SimCity 5 being in production back in 2004, but I haven't heard anything else about it

                    • Here is the news I've read:

Maxis' Luc Barthelet tells French TV that development on the next virtual metropolis has begun. Maxis won't comment.

Where did you read it was in the making?

                      • EA announced a series of upcoming games, including Sims for the PS3/Wii, and a new SimCity. There is also a SimCity for the DS coming out at some point in the next few months.
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

                        • Yup, lots of new game announcements, and a postponement of some Cryo-something game IIRC.

                          • Either its a slip up by this fella

                            OR

an intended "slip" to seed the ground to see what sort of feedback fans have as to the potential marketability

I prefer to think it is a mere "we looking but nothing yet" stage

Afterall, it stated it was in the "developement" stage..whats that..6 people in a room with a legal pad brainstorming ideas ?

Anyhoo, time will tell, many many moons from now
