after simcity 2000 maxis made it a lot more difficult to build high density cities. as far as i can recall, in 3 and 4 you need to fill up on light first, then move up slowly. go too fast and there will be too much space and your citiy, for whatever reason, collapses into slums.

apparently sims dont like living in half full apartment complexes and will move to a different town.
By working faithfully eight hours a day, you may get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day.

Hmmm I never played Simcity 3000.

I know in Simcity 4 the key is to overboard on civic buildings (colleges and such) since these buildings create a fixed number of jobs regardless of funding level, you can fund a hospital $10 a month and it'll still create 100 jobs (many of which are high paying). The civic building jobs become the seedcorn - residentials are lured in to work in civics, those ressies then create demand for industry and commerce, that industry and commerce creates new jobs... that is the key to extremely fast and stable growth in Simcity 4. Unfortunately I have no idea if it works in Simcity 3000 altough it's probably pretty likely.

Everything would be a limiting factor in your case I'm afraid. There's an awfull lot of path finding going on in this game, so your proc is't going to make it either.

It isn't a really good game anyway, it's fun for a little while until you start to notice the flaws, at that point, the fun is gone and work takes over.

              Good to know.
To date I always created squares of roads with civic bzikldings in the middle so that, with adequate funding, they would reach every house within the square. Maybe I should make the squares smaller so that I can lower funding and build more civic buildings instead.

Another wise thing is, to make good use of regions,
so that for example you place all of your residential and commercial areas in one region and most of the dirty industry into another one.
As the population commmutes to the other region to work, you can keep the residential and commercial regions almost totally free of pollution (but later, with rising education levels it is a good idea, to at least create some industrial areas in expensive parts of the town, as the chances are high, that you will get High Tech industries to settle there.

I have a question: observing the screenies, city map sizes appear lots smaller in SC4 than in SC3K. Is this true?

Huh? Starting out with medium density zoning in SC3K is the easiest thing in the world. I always do it. Even starting out with high-density zoning isn't too much of an issue. It won't look pretty, but by the time you get 300,000 citizens land values will have shot up to such extent you'll even be challenged to get low land values. (land value increases along with population size)

BTW: I have a 3.20GHz processor, 1GB RAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9800 video card.

                      Go? No go?

The reason I don't feel secure is because it doesn't really handle Call Of Duty very well at certain points. It even gets laggy in SC3K when I'm playing a big city.

That doesn't surprise me, but will the system hog with advanced cities?

It could give you a few small problems, but you can always play on the smaller maps (there are three different sizes). Back when I played SimCity 4 on a computer that is a little slower than you, but with the same amount of memory. I always played on the two smallest map sizes and didnt have much of a problem
This space is empty... or is it?

However, I don't want to play the smallest map sizes, which is why I wrote:

I don't remember city sizes in SC3K, but as far as I remember the middle map size is almost as large as in SC3K
In SC4 the middle map size is 4 times as large as the smallest map size, while the largest map is 4 times the size of the middle map size

I never actually build that much on the largest map, for it to become a problem on my computer, as I prefered the map size in the middle
This space is empty... or is it?
