I don't plan to close any Oblivion gates that I don't have too but I can't stand the one that just appeared right outside Imperial City. Reason I don't like it is because you get close to it at all and the sky turns all red and stuff and I don't like it. So it has to go!
One thing you might try re: the gates is to roleplay an evil thief type.
Not all, but many of the gates connect internally. Do your evil deeds, then escape into the Planes of Oblivion, run through the land and pop out of the connected gate which usually puts you on the other side of Cyrodil.
On a semi-related topic, I have had scamps and clanfear follow me out of gates, but never a dremora or atronach. Anyone else had these guys follow?
Wow... I've never seen a Plane with connected Gates... that's actually pretty cool .

The Oblivion Gate I've done in Kvatch was hard, but every once in a while that's okay. Do the other gates look identical? Otherwise I would feel very tempted to enter one!
Btw from now on I can only play weekends anymore so it'll most likely take a lifetime till I've seen all of Cyrodiil :/

From what I have seen so far, generally identical; in all you have to climb a tower and to take a sigil stone, and you largely will find the same type of monsters at the same places. There are, however, differences in how to achieve this. Sometimes you can climb the tower straight forward. Sometimes you have to get a key. Sometimes you have to trigger a gate. Things like this.
I had my first encounters with the "psychic guards" over the weekend. Since I've never had a problem with them before, I assumed that most of the complaints I've read have been caused by the loose nut behind the keyboard, aka an ID10T error. These, however, are real.
The usual psychic guard problem is someone breaking into a house and getting nabbed for stealing an item when no one is around. I was (and still am) convinced that most of these are caused by people not using sneak or being seen going into the house. This wasn't that circumstance. Both were in the course of the Dark Brotherhood quests.
In the first one, I was in a particular town trying to assassinate a guy who had a bodyguard. I'd found a spot where the bodyguard could not see me, waited until no patrolling guards were around, and shot the target with a bow. 1 shot, 1 kill, nobody saw it, but I had a 40 gold bounty. Putting my weapon away, I moved off, into the line of sight of the bodyguard. He instantly came after me. Nobody saw me commit the murder, so how did he know? I can sorta see it, you assume the first person you see in the area the arrow came from is the guilty party, but that still doesn't explain the second.
In the second, I was in a particular town trying to assassinate a target, who turned out to be a town guard. I spoke to the target, who attacked me while calling out that I was resisting arrest (typical bad cop behavior). We fought, I won, but other guards assisted. So, I reloaded the autosave from when I left the last building. This time, I waited until the guard was off in a corner of the city, and spoke to her again. This time, nobody was around to assist. We fought, I won, and I had no bounty. I headed for the town gate to get my horse from the stables. Halfway to the gate, a guard turns the corner. Suddenly the guard is attacking me and I have a 1000 gold bounty. WTF? I reloaded again. This time, I repeated the fight in the corner of the town, and just fast traveled from that point. No bounty at all.
Somehow those guards just mysteriously knew what had happened and who had done it.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
No you don't. Just complete the Nocturnal Daedric Shrine quest. You'll find the shrine in question along the road north of Leyawiin, east of the river.

So what. Lockpicks don't cost an awful lot, and you'll find a lot on dead foes, and random barrels and closets.
And of course that, during a thieves quest, you need a lot of lockpicks. It would be sad if that aspect was not present there

There is a way to pick a lock perfectly each time:
Spoiler:
Just wait to click on the tumbler after it has gone *up* far more slowly than it does other times. You'll see what I mean. If you do this, you will never break a lock pick again.

what I do is just pick up 100 picks at chorrol every time I swing through (only doing one quest there then moving to another city). end up with ~300 picks and just mash the auto button. very easy to do. Security must be a real ***** to master (and pretty pointless) Imho, the most pointless of the skills.
I just use Auto pick as well. I don't find the security "mini-game" fun at all. It was cool at first but quickly wore off. Glad they included the auto feature.
